Sycamore Cove Trail - TRAIL

Sycamore Cove Trail - Trail, Brevard, Carolina

The trail is well marked with blue blazes. Good climb at the beginning (little over 2 miles, but not all straight up) over some mildly technical roots and rocks with a few switchbacks. When you top out, the downhill is excellent, with rhododendron tunnels, some creek crossings, and some bermed turns. A few drop offs are included (1 to 2 feet). I had a blast. Can be ridden by the intermediate rider (i.e. me) but even more seasoned riders would like it.

This is a rooty technical loop of a trail with a climb followed by a good downhill. I rode it clockwise and this is probably best because the last part of the down hill would have been unclimbable in reverse. It's a fun trail but there are many better trails in Pisgah. I rode it on a steamy damp day and the roots were very slick. I had to go a bit slower on the downhills to keep from slipping on those roots. One bad slip and you will be off the cliff. This is a short ride and should be combined with thrift cove, grassy road and a bit of black mountain to make a decent outing. I only give it 3 stars because it's very short and the slick roots make climbing dificult and make you slow down on the decent.

this trail is pretty fun and isnt very long, i live like 10 minutes from it and have already ridden it 2 more times since the first time, its a smooth hour and 15 mintues from my house to trial and then back home...GREAT ride...pretty good uphill at the beginning and then you just start screaming down hill for a little while, the climb at the beginning is a pain, but the downhill afterward is DEFINATELY worth it...wear an ipod for the scream downhill...be carefull at the end of the trail cause it will shoot you out onto the road, but you can hear cars either way...RIDE THIS

park at the parking lot right before the ranger station on the right, across from schenk job corp...this is also the black mtn. trail head, ride up this road/trail until you get to grassy rd. trail, take this down the hill and veer left at the fork (still grassy rd trail???) this is wherethe climb starts...stay right until you start going downhill and let the fun begin....when you finish you will come out onto 276 and have to ride the road for like MAYBE a mile till you get back to the parking lot on the right...its a big loop

I rode this trail back in late February or early March. The weather was cold but not too cold to ride. My friend and I rode Tsali two days before and mountain rode riding with slicks on our mountain bikes the day before. We parked at a camp site and rode on a rode for barely any time and saw a trail marker on the left. We did a lot of climbing but it was totally worth it. The decent on this trail, on that day, was the best ride I had ever been on and that includes riding in Costa Rica, all of Florida, etc. It had rained for three solid weeks before we got there and the ground was covered with wet leaves, pine needles and other debris. There is a section that has complete overhead coverage and a series of incredible woop-d-doos. The wet leaves were often covering rock gardens that you notice while catching air over some portion of the garden. My sear was literally on my upper stomach. I was sitting way back and hauling some major, you know. Around one corner we encountered a group of bird watchers. At that point we were really moving. I yelled for people to get out of the way because there was no safe way for us to stop without injuring something major. I saw many people run but heard more as my friend came around the corner to see the running people. He let out some kind of exclamation upon seeing the group and away we went. The trail takes you over plenty of creek crossing and into dark forest. It is a great ride. I often think about that ride on that day. It was perfect. Have fun.
