Broad River Greenway - Trail, Boiling Springs, Carolina

Broad River Greenway - Trail, Boiling Springs, Carolina

DESCRIPTION

The upriver trail is mostly flat, fast and fun. There are several trails off the main trail that are more of a test. The down river trail has some technical parts at the begining but from then on is pretty good.

Like reviews before, this place has potential. Lots of rain and no drainage made the upriver trail a real drag. Mud or sand made it a chore. Would like to do it again when it dries out.

12+ miles (trails linked together), beginner to intermediate mostly singletrack trails. Watch for horses and their doo doo. The downriver trail is flat, twisty in places, and fun at fast speed. The upriver trail consists of several singletrack loops going off from the main river trail. A few creek crossings, some climbs, and some really fun downhills that aren't always easy to find. My favorite ride is to the top of Jolly Mt. followed up with a fun downhill. There are a couple of rough trails across the powerlines that will link into College Farm Rd. The Greenway has excellent potential. Take some time and explore these trails, use em and enjoy em, it's all we have in the area that are public.

Customer Service

A network of trails to explore in the area, not really organized, keep your bearings by siting the river.

If you live in the Gaffney, Shelby, Boiling Springs area then you must try these trails. I've been riding there for a few years now. We can get in over 12 miles of riding all linking off of the main trail along the river. The best time to ride is during the week. Saturday and Sunday the place is full of horse groups. Also, stay away for a few days after heavy rain. It will have alot of standing water along the river and heavy red mud on the power line section.
None of the trails are marked. Beginners should stay along the upstream river trail for an out and back ride. For an intermediate loop (about 6 miles), follow the trail along the river until it dead ends. Make a right and climb to the very top of the trail. Make a left(or straight, left is easier) and follow this trail to the power line tower that is in the first backyard you come to(you'll know it when you see it). There you can turn to the right, directly behind the house and follow the trail downhill all the way back to the river. It is a fast double-track ride. Turn left at the bottom and follow the river back to the parking lot.
There are over a dozen other options to this loop that will extend the length and difficulty of your ride. The fun way is to explore as I did. Eventually, we have planned to make some sort of map of all the know trails and post it at the parking lot. It has alot of potential. And contrary to the other review, there are jumps. You just have to know where to look. Night rides are a blast there as well. Overall, a fun place, and close to home. Four stars, taking off one because of heavy horse traffic on weekends.

Customer Service

Follow the trail upriver. The best trails all link together from this main trail.

I enjoy this trail when I want to just get a quick ride in without having to travel far. My only complaint is the lack of up keep. I think that Gardner Webb college is supposed to keep it up. If anyone who lives in the area would like to get together and see what we can do about this let me know. I would be willing to work on these trails to clean up and make more.

This place seems to get more and more fun the more my ability increases. It is great for me because I can be there in 10min. Good workout with some long gradual climbs, and some shorter more technical climbs. The dowhills are great. This trail needs to be maintained, I would be willing to help out with trail maintainence and trail naming if anyone is interested or knows who to contact. This place coul really be great with a little TLC. It has drainage issues due to Horse riders, I am not knocking them because I lived with one for 24 yrs., The trails just need to be fixed so everyone can enjoy them. I give this trail a 3 for the lack of upkeep.

Up river trail all the way to the powerline, left, the follow powerline to small cutoff on the right. From there it will come out on another section of powerline. Go right and then take left at bottom of hill to singletrack. Comes out powerline again, but crosses over. From there take left, climb, take right onto pretty flat trail then you come out again on the powerline for a good fast downhill. This will come up behind a trailer, from there follow trail back into woods for more singletrack. At fork take a left, and follow trail to next fork. At next fork take a right and hold on for quick downhill that will put you back out onto creek at Upriver trail.

The Broadway just needs some TLC. I talked to the ranger this weekend. The DOT is trying to buy the upper river trail land. So hopefully, that area will be available in the near future. Down river - there are plenty of trails (you just have to find them) and room for many more loops or options. There are a bunch of old 4-wheeler trails and logging roads trough out the down river area. I will be making several trips this week to explore and put some wear on the leaf covered trails. I can not stress this enough - potential is big for these trails. The ranger said we could make a few more trails as long as we don't cut trees or otherwise alter the environment. The broadway also owns land on the other side of the river which is basically untraveled by bikers. If anyone wants to meet up and explore, send me an email. I ride about 5:30 in the evenings. I am giving it 4 stars because of the potential.

Customer Service

I would say the up river trail, but this has been bought by some guy who is letting hunter rent it for turkey, deer or whatever.
