Ingles Field Gap - Trail, Asheville, Carolina

Ingles Field Gap - Trail, Asheville, Carolina

DESCRIPTION

One premier trail....it is reviewed somewhat under the Bent Creek heading, but deserves its own review. So much variety, such sweet downhill. Just get out and ride it. Singletrack like you imagine it should be.

Overall, an excellent single track opportunity only minutes away from civilization. Some "short-but-sweet" sections feature some steep climbing, other sections are relatively flat out. Low degree of technical difficulty make it a great learning trail for beginners or a good workout for advanced riders riding against the clock. For any class of rider, a good opportunity to work your way up a rideable hill and then enjoy a well-earned downhill rumble.

A good option is to ride as an out-and-back:
Park at the first turn off the main access road into the Bent Creek Research/Demo area; this is the Rice Pinnacle parking lot. Start out on Deer Lake Lodge trail, in less than a half mile, go right on Wolf Branch Trail. When you reach a road (Ledford Branch), go right, and very soon thereafter, turn left to find your way on to the actual Ingles Field Gap Trail.

Jeckyl and Hyde. One minute you're grinding and hating life... and the next minute you're flying down the mountain and smiling from ear to ear. I couldn't decide if I love Bent Creek or despise it. I guess if my ass was in better shape ... I'd been loving it the whole time. The hills can be very steep at time, but the downhills make it worth it. I can see how it'd be very easy to get lost in there. The trails are poorly blazed and there are LOADS of trails splitting off in all directions with no signs. This particular route wasn't very technical... but it's still an ass-kicker. Take a map... and lots of water.

well yes, bent creek is crowded, the trails are generally groomed and not very gnarly(except for a few).Sometimes i call it bored creek because i have been riding the trails for 15 yrs now.
Im sure this review will be attacked by the person who always seems to attack anyone who posts anything about trails around here, but thats ok.. i guess its just some bitterness about life on his part.
i always work my rides to include bombing down from 5 points and down ingles feild gap trail.. it is so much fun to have your bike flowing along at whatever speed you consider to be fast( after all someone is always faster). The curves are easy to carve at the bottom and really get your bike over as far as you trust your tires--catch some air on the last 100' and then go enjoy this area some more--do pisgah/ mills river on wk-ends when youve got more time...

Ingles Field Gap is an excellent training ride for building endurance and technical skills. You'll climb up forest road and single track for the first 4.5 miles and then you'll be able to rest your legs and fly down the winding singletrack. You'll climb a little more and then are finally rewarded with a slippery, rocky, tech 3+, singletrack, decent. You'll finish up by winding up and down woody singletrack and then around the lake to the Hardtimes trail head. Like all of the trails at Bent Creek, it's loads of fun!

I choose the route as shown in Falcon Guide's Mountain Biking North Carolina by Timm Muth.
