Thacher used to have some nice singletrack with a bit of climbing. You had to cross Beaver Dam road and follow the singletrack up the ridge on the Long Path. Unfortunately, it is now all logged. The singletrack has become a 15 foot wide skidder road. :(

There are plenty of roots and muddy spots but this is a pretty tame ride overall.

Customer Service

From Hop Field lot take a hard left at the top of the hill for the longest ride. After hill climb, take another left and do loop that runs along road.

Very hilly, singletrack, mud, rocks, the works, and relatively unknown! For easier rides, just explore the numerous loops between the overlook and Beaver Dam Road. There is this one descent that is awesome! It's short, but extremely steep, with very loose rocks and ruts from run-off! You will know it when (if) you find, and ride it from the very top!!!!!!!!!! It's a rush!

Customer Service

Park in Hop Field lot and go straight up. At top, cross road and continue uphill through field into the woods, hook up with the long path/appalachian trail (whatever the fuck it is) and just follow it! It does cross roads, and can be difficult to find! It goes forever!

If it's too wet, stay away. Good ride after work in the summer. Then pizza and beer at Smittys.

Customer Service

Beaver Dam Rd. by Ski area. Up the ski hill and stay on Long Path trail (green marks). Up to the high point and down to the first road crossing. Then reverse course, it seems to be two different trails. Not too long, so do it a couple times. Then go cool off on the Thatcher Park trails.

For the Capital Region it's not bad. Nothing too difficult. It has a little of everything: singletrack, rocks, roots and fire roads all thrown in. Very short trails though.

You can pick up the NY/NJ Long trail here also which runs thru Thatcher and will take you over the Catskillsand on into NY/NJ.

Customer Service

any of the various trails can be looped together.

Only a 15 minute ride from Albany with great elevation, BEAUTIFUL views (can see for miles) and very little known place, I love Thatcher Park.

Unfortunately, recent forest fires have closed many trails. I have yet to go up and see the damage. Hopefully it's not too bad. As much of the park is rock formations, I imagine some beauty was lost but much still remains.

(Beautiful waterfall too)

Customer Service

I stick to the roads, personally, but there's lots of varied terrain. Trails are short but there's still enough of them to keep you busy.

Start with a trail map from the kiosk as some trails are off-limits to bikes. Multiple short hills that give you a decent cardio workout. The ride up the Long Path is a good climb. (Especially if you have been on the pizza and wing diet like myself) Keep trying the different trails in the park. There are some mildly rocky downhills, and one that is a stairway. Once back to the Paint Mine lot, take the 2nd right turn (gravel fire road) and go up the small hill until you see a building. Take the trail to the right before it. There's a sweet loose downhill ahead with a off-camber run-out. Make sure your over the rear tire for this one.

Customer Service

Park at the Paint Mine lot (park signs say this is the only entrace for mtb) and head up the fire road. This gives you good access to all trails. When you reach Beaver Dam Road (paved) go straight across and up the hill. (Long Path)

IF your a Hardcore MTB'r don't waste your time. Trails are wider than I90 and short as hell. Although, if your looking for a easy Sunday ride give it a try.
