OutBakistan and La Brea Car Pits - TRAIL

OutBakistan and La Brea Car Pits - Trail, Troy, York

Dirt Roads, 4x4 Tracks, Junkyard singletrack, Great Views of rusted out pickups and lovely piles of assorted trash. The riding however is actually a lot of fun. Great for an after work, work-out. The entire area is enclosed in an area only a couple of miles square but the roads and trails loop all over and there enough hills to give you a good workout. There is a simliar trail system across cambelle ave. (down by the firestation) that can be accessed just over the bridge, this is mostly 4x4 tracks with some good hills.

Have yet to ride this trail, but access can be had in Rensselaer from the area of the boat launch. In addition there is access from the RPI Tech Park as well. If you stop in the main office, you can pick up a free map of the trails. only one that is actually groomed and mapped, but plenty to ride from what I have seen from above on I90 and satilite maps on the internet.

Giving this trail a 3 till I can better evaluate with 1st hand experiance.

This trail appears be no longer maintained. I tried to get on the trail at several points at the apartment complex and school, but I could never go more than 100 or so feet without hitting a dead end or excessive foliage. Maybe there is another way to access better maintained sections, but I didn't see them.

These trails are mad-ball! Great for a short burn in the afternoon. There is a variety of terrain and obstacles. Steeps, River Crossings, Junked Cars, Turkeys, Construction Debris, hostile natives. All the stuff you need for an afternoon ride.

This is not a ride with a destination, spectacular views (unless you have a thing for rusted out cars [like a man would]). But it is a great playground and offers some sections that are technical enough to challenge a intermediate to advanced rider.

No one route better than the others.

I finally found the trails. It took some riding around in the apt. complex that was mentioned. Go all the way to the end and the trails start there. Once you are in there prepare to ride hard. There are several places where the trail goes over the cars which is pretty cool. I have no idea who built these trails but they are pretty good. Driving to skidmore is kind of a hike. This provides me a place to work on my technical skills a bit. Overall a good spot to ride.

Awesome trails! A TON of single track. South Troy's best kept secret. I think two dudes maintain these trails. The one on the Gary Fisher looks pretty gay but the other dude is really cool. I wouldn't bend over in front of the Gary Fisher guy! The trails seem to wind and go on for a while. There's an old dump nearby. Good riding over there too. I can't believe this isn't more popular.

These trails do provide a lot of fun riding if you have an hour or two to kill. Definetly keep an eye out for those two nut-baggers mentioned in the other review. And be forewarned its not the guy on the fisher you need to watch out for. I was back there minding my own business when suddenly there was a flash of yellow and when I came to both my tires were flat and my shorts were missing. Other than that though it was a good time. i will definetly be back. next time however I'm bringing spare tubes and tying my shorts on tight!

I was skeptical of riding here. I decided to try it anyway. IT was GREAT. It's a weird collection of tails and doublewide trails with old rusted out cars, hills, a polluted, toxic stram. It's South Troy! I saw turkeys and troylettes getting it on. Gobble, Gobble. I saw the gayest dude ever on a Jerry Fisher. He was riding w/o shorts on and pulling his wanker yelling out to the world that he's "hung like a hamster"! I just rode by him. Great trails. Definately worth checking out...

Before I got a real job and moved to the whitebread suburbs I lived in south troy and rode nearly everyday for 7 years in this area. In the 10 years since I moved even more trails have opened up. I rode a few times there last summer and never got to all the trails that you can ride now. There are a bunch more access points If you are in Albany :from I 90 you can take the washington ave exit towards Rennsaleer and park at the elementary school. Behind the school are trails that lead down to the main north south trail. head north and there will lots of trails to your right.
a better place to park in Troy is the shopping center across from Hudson Valley CC. you can ride through the apartment complex behind the shopping center. You can also park at Rennsaleer Tech park. there is trails leading from there also.
Probaly the best local ride in the Albany/ Troy area

Customer Service

From under the 378 bridge head south past the honey pot(sewage treatment plant) trails off to the left all the way to rennsaleer.
