Allegany State Park - Trail, Salamanca, York

Allegany State Park - Trail, Salamanca, York

DESCRIPTION

Grass covered double-track with a single-track line worn down the middle. Extremely clean with few rocks and no fallen trees. Not technically challenging but nevertheless a beauty. Long gradual uphill assents followed by gradual descents. The gem is the Patterson Trail. This is a 2.2 mile descent that rules. Fast and furious. Just like down-hill skiing. This place loves mountain bikers. You can even rent them there.

Just rode the new single track off of ridge run at the top. Great trail. Still not marked and signed yet but ready to go. Ski area is the only legal ridding in the park despite other reviews. If you are advanced go to ellicotville / holiday valley.
Two good trails here snowsnake and the new single track off ridge run. I did the new trail clockwise rode double track up Patterson + other trails. Again the new trail is the only real single track here. Rest of the trails are very easy riding except for the vertical. Trails are rated for cross country skiing.

Customer Service

Patterson then right go up / left on Ridge run past two intersections. Enter the single track at the top of the ridge then keep bearing left all the way down. Take left on the way down past new lean-to. If you want more do the single track twice both directions or two loops. Or do snowsnake.

The reviews on here say it isnt technical. Ha! you guys must just be riding on the raccoon rally race course (aka patterson/snowsnake/ridgerun) If you head over to the quaker side of the park you can find all kinds of great technical riding

Customer Service

when you come into the quaker side, take a left and then your first right. You should go past a big maintenance building. the road is going to fork off, take the left. Drive up the hill about a 1/4 mile or so and then start watching for trail enterances (most of them arent marked if i remember right) all the trails off of that road are great, and if you know where your going they can take you all the way back to redhouse.

Easy beginner terrain on Patterson trail, although climb from parking to patterson trail head my exhaust many beginners. The website ranked it as intermediate. That's the easiest intermediate trail I've ever ridden if that's the case. Recommend shuttling to top. Great 2.5 mile uphill ride if up for a workout (gave aerobic rating a 4 due to climb, without, it would rank at a 1 or 0). Great downhill for beginners or family

Customer Service

shuttle to summit area and ride patterson down.

The Snowsnake is a gas. It is singletrack and doubletrack with many ups and downs. Patterson is less technical but incredibly fun when riding down it.

Customer Service

Take Patterson until you come to the Snowsnake. Take that till it ends them come down Patterson. Once on Patterson, it's more than 3 miles of downhill.

I came after heavy rains, so it wasn't as kickass as it could have been, but there are some definite hills to go up and down. This is a course for endurance and downhill freaks, as the technical challenges are few and far between. The snow trail is a lot of up and down, but you can get some real good speed. Lots of bugs, insects, deer, rabbits, skunks, and possums to keep you alert as well. Take $6 to get in the gate - you are in the NY State park system.

I didn't do any of the other trails, but the Ridge trail reportedly has endo potential and ends on a ski hill that looks like it could really, really, really hurt you if you aren't paying attention.

Just make sure you are in shape, because you will enjoy it a lot more.

Customer Service

For the easiest way to bomb, go up the main Penderson (sp?) trail... it's all uphill, but doable, and gives you access to the other portions of the trail system.

This trail sucks a big one. Getpalat manch instainer. You should stay away from this trail. Its mostly rocks and snow, I don't like snow. It has no character, the plainess is sick. I need action when I'm mountain biking in the United States.

Customer Service

Stay away from Snowman

i'm not sure what's up wit' petr. rocks?!! apparently, he's never been to central new york. either that or they have some amazingly well groomed trails in the czech republic. anyho'...it's a set of trails that are just made for mountain biking. there isn't much single track, but that just makes being in the woods wit' yer friends or family even nicer. you can ride side by side and talk. makes for good racing, too. and i like bumping elbows as much as the next guy. good climbing. white knuckle descents. it's a good couple hours in the woods. and you'll definitely have some legs when yer done. if you don't wanna pay admission to the park, you can park just before the gate house and ride your bike in for free. afterwards, stop in at the ellicottville brew pub or go to eddy's in great valley for some pizza or some s'ketti, and that's about as good as a day gets. or better yet, rent a cabin (~$210/week) in the park and make a week out of it. the three roads in the park make for a good 25 mile circuit so bring yer road bike, too.

Customer Service

Rode down the Patterson trail twice. Very fast, good tight corners, and good terrain. Also at the end of Patterson, or at the end of Ridge Run, is the Bova Ski Hill. Very steep and fun. Has some killer switchbacks and awesome speed.

Customer Service

Anything in the Art Roscoe ski/bike area. They don't want you riding on the hiking trails, but it isn't enforced.

Bova and conservation are the harder, more technical trails. The others are fast, but not as hard.

Customer Service

Take sweet water up to christian hollow then to leonard run to ridge run down to patterson over to bova and then trek over to the conservation trail.
