Vassar Farms - TRAIL

Vassar Farms - Trail, Poughkeepsie, York

Vassar Farms has something for everyone, it has a long gravel fireroad if your just looking for an easy cruise, but it also has some of the tightest and most technically difficult singletrack in the area. Together with some North Shore style stunts, big drops, plenty of dirt jumps and enough log crossings to make a bash guard a worthwile investment, this place will leave you begging for more. All in all, one hell of a ride.

I would agree with undergog1 in that it's a great area for some fast XC riding. Not to technical other than a few spots. Rode the newly revised Billjangles trail and Joejangles trail both of which are more technical then the main trails. These trails are hard to spot to the casual riders, but worth the effort of finding. "Flat track" is a great way to warm up and get in the mood.

Things have changed at Vassar in the last year. All obstacles ramps etc have been removed I believe by the college. The trails in the mid section have been cleaned up log obstacles removed. Its ok for a fast ride the better trails are across Boardman Rd (across form Lords HS]

Customer Service

start at the pond and go through to the HS and cross Boardman Rd look for a trail on the left near a fence.

If you can find it, there is a good spot for dirt jumping right as you enter. A trail leads right through the middle of the pond seen when you first come in. If you follow singletrack leading away from the main section (turn left), you may come upon a few large jumps. Also, in the back corner there are some downhill trails with wood bridges, drops , etc in DISREPAIR. Ride at your own risk.

Customer Service

Sadly, Vassar farms has put up signs restricting building. The rules now state no earth may be moved for any reason, or new structures built. What ever happened? Vassar Farms used to be the place around the valley to get a good dose of DJ and Northshore Style riding.

Vassar is a fun place to ride with a good variety of terrain. I was stoked to read about some of the improvements planned for this year. I went out Sunday to do some raking and cleanup. I wasn't able to get to all the named trails but I made a dent in it. I hope this helps with getting the improvements started. See you on the trails.

Customer Service

I usually ride the ridge trail to the named trails.

Vassar rocks! I can not wait until this season. There are many new trails and stunts planned for this year. Most of them are pretty significant. Scotty's Trail will be returned to its former glory with some new improvements of course, the Split Tree stunt is finally happening, Watch The Gap will be built if only I can find a way out, and I can't even give away the big secret yet. Just wait and see; they'll all be built. I know I say that every year, but this year I have help and hopefully do not have to repair as much as last year. A lot of the older stunts had to be replaced and/or removed last season much to the chagrin of myself and others. Progress will be made however! It looks like we will get an early start to clean up too, if the weather keeps on its current track. So if you see me or a group of guys out raking one day help us out a bit if you can. The better start to the season we get the better chance the new trails will happen. Let's all try to stay on the trails this season and stop cutting shortcuts. The trails were designed the way they were for a reason, let's keep them that way.

Customer Service

Same as I always say. Start at flat-track, end on the named trails. Don't forget church though!

I have been riding at Vassar for about a year now. Vassar offers a good variety of singletrack, short hills and drops, and stunts. Vassar is also close so you can get a good workout in a short amount of time. The trails for the most part are pretty well maintained and dry out fairly well after it rains. As the last reviewer said, please respect the trails and the amount of work that goes in to maintaining them. Take a few minutes out of your ride, especially in the spring, and pick up loose sticks and debrie so that it doesn't end up in someones derailer. A little bit here and there can make a difference. All in all Vassar is a fun ride and worth checking out. Also, if anyone is interested in taking a morning or afternoon in the spring to clean up and repair the trails I would be interested.

Customer Service

I usually ride flat track and take the ridge trail to Blair and those trails.

I have been riding at vassar for a long time now. This place has it all, you can go out and spin, hit some jumps or try out some more advanced style of shore trails. The stunts are creative and well built, good and strong not a lot of flexing. The only down side to the farms are the people who trash out the trails.I have seen things built and two days later they are gone.I wish people would respect the hard work and time ot takes to build and maintain these trails.

Customer Service

It depends on the ride and the bike you brought. For a good cross country spin start off on flat track to warm up,dont forget the church trails.

Well, it is that time of year again to go out and hit the Farms. Clean up is under way to undo the damage caused by Mother Nature and those people we love to hate. You know who you are. There are many stunts in a state of disrepair so be careful when riding until everything is back to normal in a few weeks. Also, tread lightly until the mud is dried up too, we do not want to create and more mud pits back there do we? There are going to be many things happening back there this year so for your own safety, please stay off all unfinished stunts, and look before you drop, you'll be happy you did. Trust me. Any way, if you see us out there in the next couple of weeks, please don't be afraid to pick up a rake and/or shovel. We need all the help we can get to have these trail up and running soon. See you out there...

I've seen the whole place. It has a couple of really nice sets of hidden dirt jumps and a couple of "shore" style stunts, but it's REALLY flat and you probably will get bored in about 4hrs... I did.

Customer Service

Just explore, you can cover the whole place in a couple of hours (plus thats how you find the DJ's

I live pretty close to this place and try to hit it up about 2-3 times a week. Its a great workout, not to long but there are alot of different loops you can make to lengthen the ride. Trails are pretty niceley taken care of. Best part about it is the ability of the place to be technical yet enjoyable at the same time. Alot of the place i have ridden at can get pretty frustrating but this place sure is fun

Customer Service

Park at the main entrance, start on the dirt road for about 50 yards and you will notice a dirt road off to the left. Follow that until the single track starts, you will end up at a log across a creek, cross it and go from there. Endless possiblilties.
