Garnet Hill xc ski area - TRAIL

Garnet Hill xc ski area - Trail, North River, York

Superb Adirondack riding. Probably the best place in the Adirondacks. Trails for every ability though experts will get the most out of it. Lots of strenuous uphills that are nevertheless not impossible like at nearby Gore. Many singletrack trails weave around the extensive doubletrack, the latter comprising just about ALL of their xc ski trails. This is the place for very technical trails that are rideable without wearing armor plate. Downhill bashers should go to Gore.Singletrack are basically dirt-root-rock, with swampy areas, streams, and logs. The long doubletrack have many technical and steep sections and are wide. There are some fairly level gravelly ones for beginners. Just as in the winter, this place is extensive and varied, enough to keep everyone happy all day long unlike a lot of other xc areas that say they do this but don't deliver - Hovenberg being a prime example. The people are into it, very friendly and helpful;good rentals, and a magnificent lodge with great food.

Garnet Hill - going downhill fast! But that's not the riding - very poor to non existence maintenance. Maybe 10km of trails left to ride - nothing mowed, horses now on the trails, single track growing in. Save your time - ride elsewhere.

Excellent area, only one real beginner trail though (Old Faithfull.)As described, a good amount of challenging single and double track. I was there during the week and it was almost empty. Prices good, People friendly.

Garnet Hill is by far the best trail network in this part of the Adirondacks. Don't be intimidated by the "strenuous climb" warning--it's not that bad. There is a good mix of tech singletrack and wider, easier double track. Lots of varied terrain to keep you busy. The staff is super nice and trail fees are really cheap. The people here have obviously worked their tails off to build these trails so get out there and give them your support. Until you get to know the trail network though, it's kinda stop-and-go cuz you have to constantly check the map. Well worth it though.

Customer Service

Trail 5 is a steep (but short) climb, then up to trail 2 and from here there are a lot of good descending options.

Good mix of single track and cross country trails coverted to MTB trails. The single track contains enough roots and rocks to make it technical but not enough to make it obnoxious. The single track flows well and has some nice corners to carve. There are many hills to climb and descend. Not alot of flat terrain here. There are probably around 2 hours of riding but many of the trails are worth repeating. Great staff! Bike rentals are available.

I have raced Garnet Hill a few times. The courses have been great. Overall it is a great place to ride. The people who run this place are as advertised, super friendly! There is a good mix of beginner & technical stuff. If you are going up to Gore Mtn make sure you make the short drive over. Garnet Hill will not let you down.

Your quintessential Northeast riding: dirt, roots, rocks, stream crossings, steeps, in neverending sequence. Many of the singletrack are a bit short but can be linked to make a day of very technical fun. Much of the xc ski trail doubletrack gets very technical too - the short swampy sections being blasts! Just ignore the ropes and ride the closed trails too, they're some of the best.
You can even cool off by riding a great singletrack literally right into 13th Lake. Or take a BIG paved downhill to the nearby Hudson for a swim .
I can't say enough about the nice people managing the place. This is a place to stay the weekend and great for experts and intermediates. Beginners may be intimidated.

I raced here and had a blast. The course was excellent with tons of steep climbs that really test your endurance. The single track was awesome as well. A beautiful place just perfect for mountain bikers with the true feeling of what Adirondack mountain biking should be all about.

Customer Service

SingleTrack trails are the best as well as the double tracks.

I rode the course trails for a race they were having the next weekend. It was great. There were fast parts of the course as well as some great single track. The people that work there were great and we had a really good time.
