18 Mile Creek Park - TRAIL

18 Mile Creek Park - Trail, Lake View, York

Mostly singletrack all along the upper bank of the creek. Watch out for some killer steep side trails that take you down to the water. Lots of potential for blood donors. ATV's, horses, joggers all enjoy this trail, so watch out for them. It is an abandoned Erie County park, so its legal status is questionable, but nobody seems to mind. Respect the neighborhood residents and the No Tresspassing signs. About 2.5 miles each direction. Some sections require technical skills, but nothing too extreme (except those optional side trails). Really scenic views from on top of the 100 foot creek walls! Wear bright colors so the hunters dont blow you away during open season (just kidding).

I've ran this trail 2 weeks in a row. It's not long, about 5 miles in total but really is a cool trail. The blue trail is the one you want to stay on. I somehow ended up on the red trail and it didn't lead to much (and felt lost for a few minutes). The blue trail is pretty clearly marked and easy to follow. Some technical parts with tons of roots but mostly very runnable. I love it and wish it extended longer. I started at the trail head which is at the end of South Creek rd.

Stay on the blue path. I've yet to check out the side paths but read they weren't very runnable.

Similar Products Used: Chestnut Ridge is similar but a bit more technical.

This trail has been expanded by kind-hearted mountain bikers and has many very nice (and new) trails. Disregard older posts about this trail. It's now in great shape and lots of fun. Takes about 45 - 60 mins to ride the main trail and the new loops. Take South Creek off Route 62 in Eden and follow to the end. Enjoy!

This trail is not where the icon is....follow the directions posted to Eighteen Mile Creek Park...trailhead is right in the parking lot. This trail is short....fun, with good views. Once you leave the creek and head into the forest the trail is impossible to stay on....needs better marking.

Well, the park can't really be "abandoned" since it never opened. That will change in 2003 when it does finally open. WNYMBA is working on trying to make sure bikes are allowed when it is opened. You can track the progress of the master planning process at http://rin.buffalo.edu/c_erie/envi/plan/erie_park/index2.html
