Durand Eastman Park - TRAIL

Durand Eastman Park - Trail, Irondequoit, York

Some really awsome trails here! Sections of technical stuff on the edge of the ponds: so be careful not to fall in. Also some great descents and a few rippin ascents. You gotta know where to go though, but i know several loops because i been ridin there for several years now. Hook up with the locals and they'll gladley show you the ropes.

I patrol this park and if I catch you riding
here I will give you a ticket.
The fine is now $150.00
You are better off riding somewhere else.

Durand Eastman park is Fun. You should always ride with a weapon. Yell some vulgar slang at the park rangers and sheriffs for an aerobic work out. FTW

The front section is off limits to bikers, but if you must there are some general guidelines to stay out of trouble. Do NOT circle the ponds. That is where the majority of the walkers go and the risk of collision or even just frightening some ped's is to great. Right now the fuzz is really cool about riding. I've come out of a trail head right in front of a deputy, waved, he waved back and I went right back in. If we tangle with walkers to often that will change. Also, be quite and respectful if you need to ride along side the golf course. If they start complaining we'll be in even more trouble. However, proper attitudes by bikers should keep us in good. The back section described above is really considered out of the public part of the park. Ride to your hearts content.

Head to the main enterance for the golf course, at the North end of King's Hgwy. Just a little south of that is a access road that heads down to the back nine. At the bottom of the hill there are a couple trail heads just to the left. This trail system is pretty good and well off the beaten path. There are stream crossings and short, steep climbs. There are better trails in the area, but this one is nice for variety. Do NOT ride in the rest of the park. It is off limits to bikers.

I've been riding these trails for the past 10 years, and they offer some great single track for riders of all levels. Biking in some of the park has been discouraged, but as long as we're not messing with the golfers or peds and say off the golf course, then there shouldn't be a problem. There are plenty of trails away from the glof course. For first time goers, give yours self some time to do some exploring, its worth it.
Within the park there are some quick downhills, and some nice technical single track. It's worth the trip down to the lake.

Customer Service

Either take Portland North until it deadends, or enter in muliple areas along the golf course and ponds.

OK. These Trails are "OFF LIMITS TO BIKES". $100 Fine the first time if the cop likes ya. The dogs, and loose kids are just enough to keep any good minded biker off these trails.

There's an area west of Kings Highway (Snake Rd.) south of the gulf course where you'll hardly ever see people. Very cool riding, just make sure you don't end up on private property(easily noticable). Also, great sledding in area close to sewage plant(if you can stand the smell).

Customer Service

The roads in Durand Eastman, mainly because the trails are illegal. Also, the trails around the two lakes are usually pretty narrow and have hikers on them on nice days.

Similar Products Used: Checking out the White Ladies Castle(old refectory) is cool, as long as there's no gangs of drunken, stoned teens hanging out(mostly at night in the summer) to harrass you, great view of the lake.

There are many trails within the park, that all link to each other somehow. The more you ride, the easier it is to create a nice run. I can ride for about one hour without using the same trail twice.

Be careful around the tight, overgrown trails around the ponds. You can bite it easily and end up in the scummy pond.

I have been riding there three times a week, with no problems with the Sherrifs who patrol the park. Watch out for the hikers walking their dogs without leashes. (I thought there was a law for that as well)
