Nice trails not marked. I drove up to cemetery and kinda followed madbikeguys route and just explored on my own. Fairly smooth single track not to difficult except section near quarry where you have to ride over alot of downed trees. It was rainy and wet the day I went so the trees were very slick. Area seems like a big rectangle with right side clearly posted private. Cross country running trails wind through everything wide mowed woods road. Car wash trail i got to from bottom right section of cross country trails. Some jumps and berms and down hill towards college swimming pool building. I explored and got alittle lost in single track after 40 minutes rode through ost of area then figured out where I was and rode back up hill and discovered a little more. Rode for an hour or so.

Customer Service

See Madbikeguys route, from cemetery to quarry I was really on sure where to go. I end up going through cemetary and left on rode through field then into the woods. Don't go uphill to much at first. Get to quarry first then go up hill.

I like this place a lot. I don't live that far away so it is easy to go to whenever I want. There aren't many miles of trails, at least not singletrack, but there is some pretty "buff" singletrack hiding in these woods. If you are a fan of through-the-woods riding then this may be a good place to go. Plus there are some stunts to do and some of them are hard for the beginner and even for the average rider. All in all a good time can be had so check it out. To my knowledge there are no maps and the trails really aren't marked so you may have to hook up with someone who knows where to go. Try Adventure Bikes and Boards in downtown Hamilton.

Customer Service

It is to hard for me to describe the route that I like to take. It is best to show someone where to go first hand.

I like to make this trail part of a longer ride that I start from my shop. Even more fun when a couple of friends, customers or family instigate it. We are about 6 miles north of the University but with a little sidetrack beginnning right here at home, around the Madison school and park, then south on the Canal trail. After the canal you get a little road ride where you get a good look at the Hill and Colgate from a couple miles away. For good measure you look at your riding companions and say "see that hill, you'll be at the top soon". From there look you decide whether it will be 1 lap or 2. From the road before you get to town you take the old rail bed that will bring you to the base of the hill and your all warmed up for the climb. The trails are fabulous, exspecially if you don't mind climbing. Also, most of the downfall got moved or bridged. I started the recommended route but they wouldn't give me enough room. Instigate me to give you the full tour madbikeguy@citlink.net

If your warmed up or want to warm up quick and want to test your climbing ability, climb the old ski slope. For an easier route ride the blacktop to the cemetery, or drive and park at the cemetery. From there go up and around and follow the dirt road that goes across the top of the old golf course and into the woods. Go around the chain and straight up to the old quarry where they got the rock for the origanal buildings. In the quarry you will see a trail on the left that will take you up and around and up and down and up an up to the top of the hill. Then you will cross the cross country running track and then off to the left. Go straight across the XC trail again and drop down into the woods and with a few zigzags straight across the XC trail and in an around a couple tree mounds and out onto a grassy path which you should take a right on which will then lead you to the back hedge row property line. Go west along the hedge and if you want to try some technical stuff slip into the woods at the top of the knole on the right. That trail will come back out to the one your on further down the hill. Then right, left, right, right, straight. They say I can write anymore.

OK, I ride this trail about once a week, since it's minutes from my house. From the village, you're looking at a nice 10 - 15 minute ride straight uphill, either up the old ski hill near the hospital, up through the cemetary to the old quarry trail, or a few assorted other paths. Once you're up on the main network of trails (which were primarily put in as cross-country running trails), keep an eye out for the many mountain bike trails crisscrossing your route. Lots of fun, technical singletrack through here, though last winter sure knocked down a bunch of big trees that require dismounting by almost all bikers. This place will keep you busy for two hours, but it's not an all-day adventure park.

Fun wooded single tracks running off of the "Fitness Trail". Technical steeps spur off of easy trials. Great single track loop under wooded canopy behind quarry. Loop is thoughtfully laid out. Lots of hills. Makes a great shaded workout.

A nice mix of technical single track with some short double track sections. There is a good variety of surfaces including, broken flat rock, roots, grass and packed dirt. The majority of the trails are in the woods and therefore fully shaded. There are a fair number of log crossings over areas of blow-downs.
"We" have been expanding the trail network to make a more varied loop including some quick, steep descents over the rock ledges in the area. The total loop is now approximately 3 miles with a moderate amount of climbing both single and double track. I would not recommend the trails for "beginners" although the cross-county running trails are a good bet for beginner riders.

Customer Service

Start at the chained "gate" just west of the cemetary and proceed up the double track to the quarry. The trail wraps around the top of the quarry and becomes rolling single track for 1.5 miles (+/-). The trail is not well marked (I haven't had time). If you do follow the route until you end up on the grass covered double track on the south end of the property, look for a new trail off to the right about 100 yards after you hit the double track.

I have been riding for four years all over the area and I have not found any riding that beats Colgate it has everything, good climbs, technical x-country and DH and real smooth, fast DH, you can try and find a better place to ride but beleive me its hard to find.

Customer Service

Starting at Cemetery go up the stone road 'till level w/ water tower then take a amazing single track off to the right all the way accross the hill then travel up till you come to the second trail on the left, take that accross to the geometric forest and make a left when leaving there, you will come to a single track trail on the left which is easy to miss so watch out this trail is really long and very nice it will eventually lead back to the Cemetery.

I rode this trail all the time in College and would Love to ride it again. The climbs are solid, the down hills fast, and scenery is special. For the full experience you HAVE to get a lot speed by the presidents house so you can catch HUGE air off old golf course greens. Anyone can ride this area, but cliffs near the quarry and a couple of log jams might freak an utter beginner.

Customer Service

Begin at the old cemetary , over the quarry, up to the water tower, down the backside of the hill, up to meadow and around to the cemetary again and down the ski hill.

the coolest things about the trails is there are unlimited jibs along the way. Fast down hills, intence and painful up hill, and really sick cliff drops. Colgate is no place for the beginner, But there are some cross country running trails that are cool for those how are just starting. Also the campus is amazing for alittle urban assult. Big drops, stairs, and other things you would expect to be in urban riding
