Steep and rocky. Trails were poorly marked. Extremely tecnical stuff. This place has tremendous potential with better trail marking and maps. The people working there were awesome - a friend forgot his chest protector and they just let him borrow one for the day, no questions asked.

Wow! West keeps getting better and better. There trails are great, not washed out and there is sick stuff all over the place. Large ladder drops almost to flat (still fun), a great drop off a boulder a really technical version of Plattikill's jump trail, awesome super steep stuff and more. Logs are being cleared left and right and each time I go back new stuff is opened up. They do a great job marking trails here too.

Customer Service

There are two great trails to the left of the lift when you get off that have been cleared. One of them is directly to left of the lift while the other is farther over. Loggers messed up the area but it's being cleared and the trails are rideable. If you go off onto a super steep logging road, keep it up! It's fun. If you go right off the lift, take another right and you'll find the race course. This is a super fun, technical, steep course with small drops, awesome boulders to ride on, and some tough sections. If you go right off the lift and go into the woods about 100 more feet down the trail to your right you will encounter some really sick rock roll downs. Keep going and more great trails await. If you take a right off the lift and go about 200 feet down the trail hang a right and there is some great riding. Go straigt instead and head over to the right side of the mountain for some incredibly flowy riding. There is a huge rock drop but it wasn't ready last time I was there. There is a great roll down, a super fun ride accross a stream and then a dirt road to take you back to the lift. West rocks. Enjoy and have fun! If you go there reply with new stuff!

These trails rock, this place is for the DH'ers and Freeriders, there are some XC trails on the top that go for miles. They are building trails each week, by mid-summer it should have endless amounts of runs. They are also planning a DH race series. The trails are steep and rocky w/drops, fast and flowing. This place is easy to get to, just a few miles off the northway (I87)and has a huge flat parking lot.

Customer Service

Take any of them, the one right as you get off the lift, you better have some serious travel

why pay to ride when you have unlimited terrain in the immediate vicinity. a definite for profit business venture put together by All Outdoors. rent there downhill bikes and then pay to ride the lift or event to access the cross country trails.
Shady!

What gives razta from clifton park! Did All Outdoors do something to piss you off. I don't see you complaining about anybody else who runs a rental shop at a mountain, ie. Mounatain & Bordertown at Gore, High Peaks Cyclery at Hovenberg.
You don't want to pay don't pay. Maybe riding DH is to hard for you. Ride around the block and stop bitching.

Razta, have you missed the bus again?? Gee, I wonder how a mountain could run lifts and not attempt to make money?? Do you work for free?? If you are an XC racer/rider, then go ride those types of trails, if you are a down hiller and you know a mountain that has free lifts, please let me in on the future bankrupt ski resort. If you enjoy biking then go to where ever you want, if it is a mountain that charges then I guess I will see you pushing your way up the mountain as I take the lift up for many runs as you get in one fantastic ride to the bottom. I will probably avoid this site since it allows people to post without stating who they are. I am a hypocrit for my next statement...... LET'S REVIEW TRAIL'S AND NOT PEOPLE!!!

I think the partnership between All Outdoors and West Mountain is absolutely great. I grew up about 3 miles from West and skied there every year. I have been waiting for this for a while. Thanks. As far as the comments from Razta go: I don't know where you ride, but in the Queensbury area there are hardly any free trails. All the one's around the reservoirs are highly illegal, especially since 9-11. All the rest are too boring and easy. To All Outdoors and West: keep up the good work and please have some XC races, I'm too broke to get into Dh. Thanks

usually i just ride at plattekill, but i decided to give this place a shot last weekend, and it was not a disapointment at all. it had recently rained and the rock gardens were pretty challenging. lots of expert level trails with a nice mix of rock gardens, drops, chutes, and logs. the guys that build the trails are cool and were talkin about building up north shore stuff. the mountain cross course was a little bit too grassy for my taste, but still fun as hell. the trails are super windy singletrack that is littered with sharp rocks. i was goin too fast, missed a corner and went into a tree. now i have a bruise on my ass the size of a grapefruit. but it was fun as hell. the trails seemed to drain relatively well in most places, and the lodge and lift are both nice.

For riding in the Northeast, this will become the new Mecca. It will have to more to offer to a wider group than Plattekill, and its easy to get to. Plus, there is a ton to do in the region. You can go to Lake George in 15 minutes, or down to Saratoga in the same amount of time.

As for the trails, they are awesome, technical singletrack that will keep you on your toes. If you want to ride the singletrack in the woods, I highly recommend at least 5" up front, and disc brakes. The rocks will eat up anything with less travel and you will become familiar with what brand stem/handlebar you have as you go flying over it. At the same time, you can have your girl friend ride the ski trails down without getting hurt on her XC rig. These trails are marked with orange tape, and you cant get lost. From a technical standpoint, it reminds me of Plattekill about 6 years ago, before the big drops and really sick stuff. Better than Gore, and way better than Jiminy Peak.

Hats off to Chris from All-Outdoors and his bros who are busting ass to build a killer trail system. As if starting and managing SMBA (Saratoga Mt. Bike Assoc.) isnt enough, this guy is what Mt. Biking is all about. He is solely responsible for keeping some of the best single track open, and still developing more of it, at Saratoga. The Stables rule if you dont need a chairlift.

So go to West, be smart, and buy pads before you get there, you will fall and odds are very good you will land on a rock. Just leave the 3.5" FS XC bike at home, you will not like it in the woods, the trails are too technical.

Razta obviously doesnt appreciate whats being done here, $20 is the bargain of the summer for this type of riding. His 1 tire review should be removed, its just wrong.

Customer Service

follow the directions, very easy to get to.

Stables at Saratoga. Just dont be cheap, stop at All-Outdoors or West and help SMBA and join for a year. Its $35 and that helps to lease over 500 acres of incredible terrain. I'm sure its helping to get West set up the way it is, and its well worth it.

this place is awsome, its gonna be sick having a place so technical and fun around the capitol district, and on fridays the 12-8 operating hours means alot of riding, and the guy in the shop was pretty chill, its definately not a place where you go to first try mountain biking, you are gonna want to have a serious bike underneath you, i tweaked out my rear rim(rhyno lite) pretty bad hitting one of the cool jumps they create out of no where in a trail, but it bent cause i ride half retarded. The trails are and feel like they are made by serious riders and they are challenging but not fustrating, which is the best that you can get

I predict that this place will not only be a big scene but THE scene on the northeast for serious riders, with the ambitious managment looking to throw in some north shore shitt, and bringing a dozer to sass up the mountain cross course there is no way you can loose coming here, but don't be mistaken, your gonna get hurt if you don't know what you are doing. this is what i prayed for and it has finaly come, thank god, definately go for the $10 happy hour from 4-8 on fridays
