La Tierra Torture - Trail, Santa Fe, Mexico

La Tierra Torture - Trail, Santa Fe, Mexico

DESCRIPTION

Up the hill following suveyors tape and rocks painted orange or red. This is a trail in dire need of adequate trail marking because there are so many roads and trails...but if you follow the tire marks you should get in most of the loop. At the top of the hill angle right and ride the ridge top until the left hand turn down the single track to Camino La Tierra. Cross the pavement and up to the right (follow the tape). About half a mile up there is a left turn but if you go that way you miss really good single track (follow the blue tape). From here just follow all the tire marks and ask the boys and Bike-N-Sport in Santa Fe for a map or better markings.

I am new to Santa Fe and have just been discovering the local trails. I live just a short bike ride from one of the trailheads for the La Tierra Torture Trails and I have to say this I am going to love having this ever expanding network of trails as my backyard ride.
Although the riding isn't spectacular, there are so many different routes to chose from that I doubt if I will get board. This should also make for some great sunset/night rides as well.

Customer Service

Just follow the fun. I am still exploring.

If you're in town in October try the race!!!! Also difficulty is due to 3/4 of the trail being uphill and the rest is sand!! You should be in shape or the trail is going to be hell! Great workout!!!

Customer Service

Follow the tracks... But Beware there are no markings to speak of...

Well if you enjoy sand, broken beer bottles, and used condoms this is the dream trail for you. You start the ride at a spray painted dumpster and work your way up a steep hill where you can view teenagers smoking low-grade. Then the trail takes an exciting twist through some road construction and piles of trash. The fun part is on the way! Sand and more sand.... The best time to ride this trail is in the middle of a hot summer day, just to get the overall experience of how horrible this ride is. Sorry... I know some of you guys like this ride but this is my review.

Enjoy this trail while you can; the developers and the ultra-rich that live on it's fringes are closing it down. 1999 will be the last time the race is held here.

There is a new course! The guys at Bike-N-Sport have cut loads of new single track and routed it away from the broken bottles and bonfire debris. To get there follow Highway 285 north from Santa Fe to the traffic light at Camino La Tierra (599 bypass) turn west (the only way possible) about 2 1/2 miles to Camino de los Montoyas. Turn right or north about 1 mile to the microwave tower. Park here and follow the new single track west, there maybe orange tape too.

Tony at Bike n' Sport indeed got a lot of trails cut out in this part of town, and more are on the way... We've been working with the Tano Road Assc. to keep the area to the North of 599 clean, as best we can with volunteer help. The city has just preliminarily approved some funding for a parking lot and for some barriers to keep the bubbas from driving there trucks of garbage & shotguns into the place...
The trails saved this past biking season as the forest was closed, and will get better with time!

Customer Service

Start behind the Santa Fe Spa, up the hill to the north and along ridge 'till you get to the end, go down embankment to road (Ridgetop Road) head north for about 1/2 mile, across 599. Take a left Up the embankment, head in @ dirt road to singletrack.... get map from bike n' sport on Cerrillos for decent detail...
