One of my favorite places to ride, more like round mountain than the main round valley trails (less maintained), be prepared to climb, but extremely rewarding downhill.

Customer Service

Either do the main round valley trail and take the fire road to campsite 60 and go back up the mountain, or park in the lot by the train tracks and do it in reverse and take the road to bring you back to wherever you parked

This is the backside of Round Valley. There are 2 main trails from the the parking lot. Take the one down the dirt road to the left of the hiking trail in the corner of the parking lot. It's probably 100 feet from the first trail and make a right. The log bridges and stunts are mostly overgrown and rickety at best. At the end of this trail make a right turn up the mountain. You'll probably have to hike -a-bike to get to the summit. Half way down the backside of this hill make a left and that is the main bike trail in Round Valley at the opposite end of the lake from the main parking area.
The Reserve parking lot is the free parking spot in the summer. I only ride this area when I feel like an extreme workout. There are really tough trails mainly due to the huge hills. I would rate this area higher if there were more than this one trail that has very little character. Someone should try to see if it's a possiblity to make a side trail that has switch backs for the biggest of the climbs. There are 3 big hills here that will challenge the most die-hard hillclimbing fool.

See my review under Round Valley Resevoir. This is the back way into Round Valley. Big climbs, cool log piles stewn about. This trail would be best called Cushetunk Mountain Nature Preserve. In addition to my Round Valley post, the reserve itself has two loops that are cool for short hits. You'll see the first cutting up to the right partway up the big climb. The 2nd loop is over the top of the big climb and down. When you get to the four-way at the bottom, hang a right for some tough rock riding (assuming you rode the loops counterclockwise). This particular loop is only open like August to April due to eagles nesting. There is one trail that goes to the top and just dead ends as a prior poster noted. I only had to do that once!

I just got back form riding this location today August 12, 2006 . I made a left turn over the little old bridge and a quick right and parked there. You will see a very small cemetery there, keep riding past the blue water tank on your left and you have to look hard for the trail openings. The first trail I found was at the end where the Nature Preserve sign is. This trail was not maintained and it was more like a mountain then a trail, but I made it to the top and that was it the trail ran out. With all the over growth coming back down was painful ( lots of thorn bushes ). I started heading back when I found another opening. This trail was much better but you would have to be part mountain goat to fully enjoy it. Your gonna have to go over a few big downed trees and walk it most of the way up to the top. Once at the top it looks like the trail goes down to the lake but I didn’t check it out because my ass was kicked walking my bike up a wall. There is a sign that says the trail ends in 500 feet but it must go down to the lake. Going back down was fun, lots of rocks and lots of braking . And again lots of thorn bushes on this trail. If anyone else knows of any other trails at this location I would consider going back to check them out, but if those are the only trails then I would have pass on going back. From what I’ve seen I say this location is over rated.

These trails are definately the most fun you can have on a bike. With a ton of bridges, log rides, and hard rock gardens. They make any other riding seem really easy. They are growing every day with new trails appearing and bridges popping up all the time. These trails are definately worth visiting even if you live far away. You will not regret the drive. The trails are found in the Nature Preserve parking lot on Railroad Ave. These trails are for experienced riders. Don't hurt yourself doing something dumb, there are a lot of places to get hurt. Have fun.

It sucks. Too many dead animals. They make the whole trail smell bad. I like the sharp jagged rocks on the side though.
