Jamesburg Park - Trail, Monroe Twp., Jersey

Jamesburg Park - Trail, Monroe Twp., Jersey

DESCRIPTION

Legal for everything except motorized vehicles. Mostly fire roads and dirtbike trails. Gets sandy at times. Well, it's always sandy, but up to 3 or 4 days after rain, it's still damp back there and good riding. If you cross roads you can keep going for what seems like forever. You could do 15 miles no problem there. It's a good workout due to the terrain. Sand, mud, hills, etc. It's a fun place to ride and enjoy different terrain.

Looks like most of the reviewers here are confusing this trail with the Thompson County Park trail in Monroe (which is MUCH better, BTW).

The trails are mostly sand, sand, and more sand. Sand gets so deep you can't ride your bike!

It's more catered for ATVs and motorbikes. if you do see the trails (too far in between the sand trails) suited enough for bikes, they're unmarked and confusing. I ended up on somebody's backyard following the trails!

not to mention that some of the hills aren't quite for beginners...and they look too dangerous (well, at least to me).

Forget this trail.

The reviews in this section are describing two different trails/parks. Thompson Park is in Jamesburg but is not Jamesburg Park. Jamesburg Park is the wooded area that you would not know is a park that is bounded by Cranbury Road and Dunhams Corner Road at one end and Rt. 522 and Main Street in Helmetta at the other. Thompson is very close and sits just behind Monroe HS, parlt in Jamesburg, partly in Monroe. They are very different terrain. The park described as Jamesburg Park is like riding in the Pine Barrens- very sandy, some rolling hills but basically flat. Thompson kicks ass. There is a little of everything but rocks. Take my dog there a lot. Neither is used all that much. You can hunt in Jamesburg Park which I try to avoid, and there are lot of hikers in Thompson.

To the poster below - 'Jamesburg Park' not 'Thompson Park' - idiot.

Jamesburg Park / Helmetta is a great trail if you like flat, sandy trails and getting run over by groups of quads. 10-15 yrs ago, these were decent trails, but now that every redneck in nj has quads and nowhere to ride them, avoid like the plague.

Thompson Park has everything from begginers to dirt heads. The park is hilly, muddy, sandy, has logs, water, STEEP hills and low hills. My family and I go together and we all find trails to keep us occupied for several hours with no roads to cross. Just be careful of the standing water - it Stinks!

Customer Service

Use the entrance behind the dog park on Perrineville Road. You can branch off any way you want to go from there. There are simple, intermediate, and hard trails. Enjoy!

Jamesburg/Monroe park AKA Thompson park off exit 8a NJTPK is off the hook. These trails are wicked as s#*t. I don't know what kind of inexperienced rider gave such a low score, but he needs to check his self. Crazy drops, tight single track, water crossing, breath taking vistas, and to top it all off endless trails. This is a gem of a park with so many trails of endless, technical single track I assure anyone who rides, they will not be dissapointed. You can go all over the east coast and not find a better ride.
