Hubber Woods - TRAIL

Hubber Woods - Trail, Middletown, Jersey

I found Huber like a short version of Hartshorne. It''s smaller but it''s able to pack a lot of uphills and downhills. I would recommend this park for beginers/intermediate; but i''ve also seen many experts go on the trails just because it''s not too big and can give you challenging situations from time to time. If you want to start Mountain biking i think it''s a great place to go, here you can get familiar with the idea of going over roots/logs, uphills, cool downhills and falling off your bike. I also found a great place to practice for more challenging trails like Hartshorne. Here is the breakdown of the trails: Discovery Path – easy path, walkers only. Nature Loop – easy path, walkers only. Farm Path – moderate 1.7 mile trail for equestrian and nature enjoyment, horses and walkers only. Fox Hollow – an easy trail of 0.9 miles. Valley View – a moderate 1.6 mile trail (circles the park’s eastern portion). Clay Pit Run – a moderate trail extending out to Locust Point Road. Meadow Ramble – 0.7 mile trail exploring the western side of the park. Many Log Run – a challenging 1.2 mile trail with elevation changes for bicyclists and equestrians.

Awesome trails. Like others have wrote this is very much a smaller version of Hartshorne. Nice uphills with some challenging downhills. I wouldn't bring firstimers to this trail simply becuase the downhills can be very rocky at times and some sandy turns may throw them off. This isn't a begginers set of trails. The best part about this small set of trails is that it is very easy to figure out which way to turn to keep on the trail you want to stay on. Great markings. Lots of pedestrian traffic and sometimes horseback riders. I also found that during heavy rains the trails are still OK to ride. It realy absorbs water well. You'll will be muddy but you will not be flooded out at Huber.

I ride here more then once a week but that was the only option I could pick. Huber Woods is a great place for everyone. I think mostly beginners come here just because Hartshorne is so close everyone else goes there. I don't usually find this place crowded. The trails are amazing and it can get pretty technical at times. The downhills are really fast and a lot of roots on your way down. I find the sand as another way to get a great workout and a good place to learn how to get through it.

I've customized my route by first going onto Valley view, the manylog run and then back onto Valley view. For a more difficult/ uphill trail try Clay Pit Run back and forth.

I see Huber as a place to warm up for Hartshorne. You can connect the parks by riding out the dirt road at the back of the park and then take the streets to Hartshorne. The Huber nature center also has bathrooms and a picnic area for the post-ride.

Mostly single track. Way, way too much sand for non-stop riding. I wonder what genius decided to empty a beach and throw so much sand around. It could be a good trail but the sand ruins it, in my opinion.
