Liberty State Park - Trail, Jersey City, Jersey

Liberty State Park - Trail, Jersey City, Jersey

DESCRIPTION

mostly flat, brick pavers and blacktop. They just opened a whole new section of the park. It goes for about 3 miles along New York Harbor passing the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. There are paved roads that weave inland a little ways. You can ride it all in an hour if you peddle fast enough. But this trail is fine and the view of NYC is incredible. You need flat roads when you are looking at the scenery. There is also a natural estuary with lots of birds and sea wildlife.

Ride it if you are an intermediate and you want to go fast or you train for quick bursts of speed.

Ride it if you are a beginner who's just starting out.

Avoid it if: you want any hills at all.

It's completely flat, and everything is paved so mount your slicks before you go. You can get good speed along the water and on the gently curving paths thru the park. Have fun w/the headwind on the way back. It's a good training ride after work or early on a weekend -- before the crowds arrive. And yes, the view is amazing.

For true beginners it is a good place to test balance shifting, etc.

You'll see people fishing, blading, jogging -- the usual. Oh yeah ... the old RR station/museum is the port for the St of Liberty/Ellis Island ferry so you'll see plenty of the touristus walk-very-slow-in-front-of-us species, esp on weekends.

Rating of 3 for the speed factor, and the fact that the paths wind a bit keeps it all interesting.

PS: There are very few trees so bring your own shade.
