Kittitany State Park - Trail, Andover, Jersey

Kittitany State Park - Trail, Andover, Jersey

DESCRIPTION

there is basically 3 parts in these trails that are separated by jeep roads... there is a race here once a year and the race course is pretty much it, approx. 8-10 miles. lots of challenging climbs with tons of power climbs in between. it's a perfect race course. it has its share of technical sections... 85% singletrack and fast!

I like this system of trails. They are very well groomed and clean. Who ever takes care of them does a very good job. Most of the trails flow very well and are fast and lots of fun. There are a few rocky sections and a few short"ish" moderately steep climbs. There is more climbing to be had on the north and west sides of the park with less on the south and east near rt 206. This is a great place to go after work on a week day due to the fact you can put together just about any size loop you want you can ride 5 minutes or 2 hours if you want. There are many interconnecting trails which gets confusing at times BUT if you get the trail map you can figure everything out. The trails surface are hark pack dirt and stone , the trails dont seem to get too muddy in most areas.

Lots of options in this park. Nothing too difficult. You can saty on the beginner stuff but there is some intermediate too. Or if you want to you can just fly down the Sussex Branch rail trail.

it is an ok ride, good for newer riders who dont want to get lost but want a little more of a challange than the toe path. Alot of rocks and short climbs. if you ride around you will eventually find the stuff everybody is talking about, If you want a great ride where youre sure to get lost go to alamuchey, its a few miles south on 206, that place is one of my favorites.

Customer Service

just ride untill u get tired, you may get bored first.

I like Kittatinny. that said the only other biking that I have done is on the Sussex branch trail from Waterloo Road to Lafayette. I am new to Mountain biking and bought my bike in february. I live 1 mile from this park so I ride in it every weeknd. For me it is a challange. i like the singletrack around the lake (white diamond), it is tight and fast and narrow with many trees in the way. I don't like riding through the airport runway - that scares me alot. I DO like the green trail and the the orange trail and the red trail and some of the blue trail. The yellow trail is too much hill and treacherous (for me) The most time I've spect there is 2 1/2 hours and then I've done all but the yellow trail and the one by the lake twice. i intend to swim in the lake this summer despite the "no swimming signs"

Customer Service

Go in by the Aeroflex airport. Park in the lot. bear off to the left and go through the runway. Stay close to the tree-line then duck into the white diamond ride by the lake

Unfortuanately mtbdemon has posted some incorrect information. The park is Kittatinny Valley State Park, PO Box 621, Andover, NJ 07821. Phone 973-786-6445. E-mail kittvlly@warwick.net. Directions to the park: from Route 80 take Exit 25 for 206 North for 7 miles. Turn right on to Limecrest Rd. (Route 669) at the Exxon Station. Follow Limecrest Rd. for 1 mile, then turn left in to the park. Maps and trail information are available at the park office located in the green Victorian building at the south end of Lake Aeroflex.

definitely a nice race course. agree with first post. some challenging steep climbs and some great fast singletrack throughout. 3 race laps was pretty tough going for about 21 miles. a few rocky sections and not much time to recover on descents so it's a never stop pedalling type course. In Sport the majority of the riders couldn't make the steepest climb by the second lap. I would definitely ride here again. Only thing it misses it huge tough climbs and long descents.

Eli

A good place for beginners to learn, and more experienced riders to have a good weekday "fun ride." No big climbs or downhills, some fire road, some single track, some double track, some rail trail. Alot of nice, scenic, rolling terrain around a small airport.
A very nice ride; an "easy day."
Maps are available at the park office, but you can't really get lost anyway- it's a pretty small park.

Customer Service

It's a small park- you can ride it all in an afternoon (including the adjacent Sussex Rail Trail)
