I have done this ride a countless # of times from spooner to a couple miles past the Sand harbor lookout and back. I have also done it from spooner to little Valley into Washoe and Back into Carson City, this is an alldayer with one tired and abused body no matter what shape your in. If you can pedal all the way to marlette Lake without stopping you can do the ride, cause you have to be in pretty good shape to grind that hill. The terrain is killer, plenty of technical, extremely fast Dh with some killer air. If you haver map then you will find going around the left side of the lake will take you to the Rim trail follow to the dam at west side and get technical down to the single track with excellent views of tahoe lots of turns granite wide and skinny with excellent speed as it is flat for a while, eventually you can hook a left and ride down to the highway and back to spooner which I love but be careful especially in summer months, lots of traffic, or you can turn around and head back down the spooner grade you climbed in about a tenth of the time, which means you either love 40+ with jumps galore or you better have great brakes to enjoy the scenery. Or you can continue you from that turnoff and go the way I like to go or head over to Hobart Res, a becoming more popular ride all the time. I remember when I was in my teens even early twenties you did not see a whole lot of people. No matter where you go in this part of the Sierras be prepared to have fun, be courteous, pack it in pack it out,and enjoy.

Awesome trail. The view is great. Different terrains make this a great challenge. Still found patches of snow... in June!! If your in good shape you'll have a blast. I saw a few beginers pushing their bikes complaining about the trails and the distance.

This is one of the best sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail with everything from technical rock hopping to blazing fast descents through switchbacks and trees. I highly recommend riding it both ways if you're an expert rider in very good shape. The challenge is to stay in your pedals - if you can ride it both ways without touching you're a stud - good luck!!!

Customer Service

Park at either Spooner Summit in the lot off of highway 50 or park at the parking lot off of Kingsbury Grade. Ride both ways for a total of 24 miles of single track.
