Big Mountain Ski Area - TRAIL

Big Mountain Ski Area - Trail, Whitefish, Montana

Ride the lift up and rip down the trails to the bottom all day long! I believe there is 14 differnt trails on the mountain all ranging in different skill abiliites. The main trail is an intermediate that is 8 miles long. Once you get towards the bottom there is a few advanced trails with steep descents through the trees and technical drops and dips. There is also a small skills park with a few skinnies and soem berms. Nothing too serious. Bottom line, it''s not Whistler, but for a 10 dollar lift ticket, it''s more than fine!

This is a great area to ride. An all day lift ticket is $25, one shot is $10, two shots is $20. Your hands will hurt from braking and your face from smiling

Runaway Train is the first DH/A-line type trail from the top to the bottom of the mountain. Big Mountain is finally building DH trails all the way from the top. The new website has a video of the new trail.
Go to older vids and check it out.

Big Mountain has finally stepped it up and built a DH trail from the top to the bottom. Its called Runaway Train. It is super flowy with small to medium jumps with a few techy sections. I hope they build more trails in the future, but this is a good start. If you are in the area definately check it out. There is a good video on their website. Its still Big Mountain to me.

Great trails, but watch out, this year i drove 600 miles only to find out when i got there that they closed the lift for the season the very day i arrived with NO warning. I am pissed to say the least. learn how to update your customers b4 they arrive NOT when they arrive. seems to make sense to me.

The trails are few, short, and easy. Not worth your time. Go to Fernie, Great Divide, or Silver Mountain in Kellogg Id. They know mountain biking. Big Mountain needs to get a clue, until then dont bother. They dont support anything FR or DH anymore. They hold XC races but no DH races in the last few years.

This resort is known for its 8 mile "Summit Trail" which is a gentle, meandering, and wide trail that starts at the top of the Glacier Chaser Gondola and snakes down to the lodge at the bottom. Don't expect to break any speed records or be challenged until you get about 6 miles down from the top then you have a tiny skills park, or two slightly stunted trails to get you to the bottom. There have been problems in the past with illegal trails and lines so please avoid riding anything but posted trails. A full-on DH rig is out of place in this resort and is best suited for XC or 5in trail bikes unless you find the old Biker-X course (ask a liftie..its not on the map) Big mountain offers just enough terrain to keep you busy for a full day or mabey 2. I ride it every year when I pass through on vacation and its still fun.

Summit trail to skills park to daves dive to the car and to the bar!

Similar Products Used: Would have liked to ride spencer before it got stripped down... old pictures look awesome and I never got the chance to see it in person. Heard that there might be some rebuilding though.
