Beargrass Highway - Trail, Missoula, Montana

Beargrass Highway - Trail, Missoula, Montana

DESCRIPTION

Five and a half miles of smooth singletrack from the top of the Grizzly lift to the base area. Either pay to ride the lift up (only $8!) on weekends or ride up one of the service roads from the base. Get a map from their website or at the base. A nice loop would be to ride up Spitfire or The Breeze (service roads) and down the Beargrass. If you decide to ride up the singletrack, watch out for the little rippers sailing down on their downhill rigs! There''s also a disc golf course (folf for the MT locals) at the top of the Grizzly lift that''s well worth a round.

Great climb and a great downhill. Do the climb early, it becomes a one-way at noon on weekends. There are a couple of barely doable sections on the way up. Good luck. The downhill is a kick but be careful. Miss a turn in a couple of places and you will get a very expensive helicopter ride. Rarely a crowd and good beer at the bar on weekends.

Customer Service

Do it both ways. The climb is a good one.

Really fun singletrack... 95% downhill. Some really sharp swichbacks interrupt the fun occasionally, especially since people with no braking skills have turned the switchback entries into total washboard. To make things a little more sporting, ride up one of the service roads instead of taking the lift. Don't forget to stop in for pint at the bar/restaurant when you're done for the day.

up spitfire/the breeze and down beargrass. ride from town if you're really burly. my aerobic rating would be a 1 if i wasn't including the uphill ride.
