Cliff Cave County Park - Trail, St. Louis, Missouri

Cliff Cave County Park - Trail, St. Louis, Missouri

DESCRIPTION

The section to the North is a rocky loop thats fairly technical, watch out you don't go off the cliffs! this loops around to a spot near the South trailhead which is where most of the trails are. Trails seem to go everywhich way, and I estimate 15-20 miles in total. There is lots of fast singletrack, with an assortment of steep hills, logs, and so forth to keep you busy. follow the last group of NORBA arrows to see how the latest race course was set up. The place gets muddy after wet weather, so a dry spell is best. Lots of bug s in the summer.

Park trails have had alot of work put into them in the last 2 years by Gateway Offroad Cyclists (GORC). 4+ miles that can be ridden in multiple loops with several cross connectors. You can easily ride for 1 hour and feel like you have not been on the same trail. From fast and flowing to tight and twisty surfing trails with minimal elevation up and down. Very single speed friendly on the Spring Valley trail and inner loop. Great place for a beginner to learn. Small techinical sections are on the North side of the road with a 1 mile loop with several rock gardens and drops.

Customer Service

If you do not want the steep climb up to the trail loops park at Oakville Middle School on Telegraph road and ride across north end of field in back of school.

I usually ride these trails because i leve right by them. i think they are pretty good because on the far south it gets more for speed and once you move north it gets rockier and more hilly. once you cross north over the road it gets fun because its just strait up rocks just try not to fall of the cliff. Its nice because when u are done riding you can either follow the road down and sit by the river or you can cool off in cliff cave which is pretty refreshing.

Customer Service

i usually just ride aroud but i recomend the rocky trails.

I was not impressed with the way the trail had been marked. It wasn't especially challenging, however, I must admit it was faster than I had expected. It was nice to finally experience it though.

Customer Service

Take one of the two trailheads and your guess is as good as mine is; it was that poorly marked.

The trail is generally flat as you meander along the crest. There are some fun dips and inclines to make a leisurely roller-coaster type ride. The trail follows along a bluff over looking the Mississippi. Parts can get rather technical and confusing as the single track disappears and you're riding on bare rock a couple of feet wide and hundred some on a cliff above a railroad track. Rather exhilirating. Most rides have been low effort, fun and haven't experienced any technical mishaps. Good for a qucik hour or so getaway.

Customer Service

As you enter first the park, a trail crosses the road, follow it to the right (west, south?) It meanders, splits, and so forth. After a while you don't know if you're going clockwise or following a noodle in a bowl of spaghetti.

Fun. Accessible. Fairly aesthetic singletrack ranging from "trialsy", rocky problems to swooping curves through mature upland woods. This area offers alot of fun riding packed into a relatively small area right next to the Mississippi. Definitely worth doing at least once and repeating whenever you're in the South County area.

Customer Service

Park on the right at the bottom of the hill. Go up the road, take a right, loop North past the cliffs and back to the road, cross the road, do any number of short loops on the South then finish with the rocky downhill back to the creek crossing and parking area. Repeat as needed.

slightly technical on the north trail. rocks are slippery when wet. mostly singletrack, fun ride, not sure why the trail length is considered 15-20 miles, i've riden the whole park twice in an afternoon.

Customer Service

start with the northern trialhead, loop across the cliffs, cross cliff cave rd. and shoot into the southern trailhead,

If you get bored of all of that just go up on the cliff where things get more difficult but more fun.Watch where your going though. These trials have lots of rocks in your way. There is one spot where there is about a two to three foot tall wall you have to get up or down depending which way you come from.I say you should go for it.Dont get off your bike.

Customer Service

I usally start out behind Oakville Jr high.Just go staight and afteryou come to a dead end and usally turn around and go back and you will come to a y in the trail ,go right.Take the second right after that and there is a little drop off not big at all.

I don't ride this trail very often, but it makes goos use of being in south county; has some nice views of the mississippi. haven't ridden it in a while, but from what i remember, it was not too rocky or technical, a lot of hardpack. races are held thee if that tells you anything. last time i rode it i was going all over the place trying to find where in God's name i was headed

Customer Service

i dunno, clockwise? this trail is like a web, you can make a turn somewhere and not know where the hell you are

This trail is a very hard one to stay on.It has lots of dead end trails and alot of fallen trails. You do not want to get to close to the edge of the trails because of the ditches to fall in.I would recommend riden this trail with someone incase you do get hurt.Do not ride if it has rained in the last 3 or 4 days.If you get lost follow the houses back to Cliff Cave or Oakville Middle. Walk the trail before you ride it.

Customer Service

Start at
Oakville Middle and and follow the houses through the trail. Go down Cliff Cave Rd. it is a fast and cool ride.
