Delaware Park - TRAIL

Delaware Park - Trail, Cape Girardeau, Missouri

The main trail is on a 18 acre plot of city park land that is open to Mt bikers and hikers only. No horses. Approximate legnth is almost 2 miles. The trail appears to be long for such a small plot of land. There is a front section and a back section of this trail. The front is open and mostly grasslands on a nice hill with a slalom style downhill and a few jumps and berms and with a couple of other climbs and downhills, all short and fast. Most of the corners have a bermed edge and can be taken at speed. The back half of the the trail starts at the creek crossings and is very tight and twisty. This section is partially wooded and very unique. There is a perimeter loop with a interior loop. The perimeter loop is not as tight as the interior, but allows for greater speed. One side is a climb and the other is a fast downhill. The backside of the perimeter is like a canpoy. The feel is like riding through a tunnel. The interior loop is fast, tight, and twisty. The 2 creek crossings are mildly technichial and there is 1 climb slightly past the 2nd creek crossing that is short and steep with a root halfway up that sme people may find to be challenging. At the top of that short climb, you hook back up with the front half of the trail and drop into the slalom section. There is an adjacent piece of property with trails that is PRIVATE and is only used when a race is going to be held. That will add another couple of miles giving a 20 minute race lap. Fastest lap to date on the main trail is 9 minutes flat. Good luck.

A very well designed trail...makes efficient use of the land. The hardest parts are marked with "Danger" signs. Tape and arrows help mark places where the trail isn't obvious. I've ridden quite a few trails and this was high on my list of fun ones.

It's hard to tell what direction to go until you see a sign...you can ride the whole trail backwards but it's a bit harder and you might have a head-on collision.

Wow! This trail was a blast. In the past three days I have ridden Honey Run in Osage Beach, Rhett's Run in Columbia and now this ride in Cape. Honey Run is fantastic. Rhett's Run was too technical for me to really enjoy, but Delaware Park in Cape Girardeau was really fun. The description of the trail is perfect. I rode it two times this evening and it was a great workout.

This is a nice trail for being right inside the city. Southeast Missouri State University students should take advantage of how close it is to campus, probably less than 2 miles.
You can tell that the guys who designed this trail set it up to make the most out of a relatively small area of land. The description above says it best: It is tight and very, very twisty, making it pretty difficult to ever really get any major speed going.
It isn't a very technical trail at all, except if you want to step up your speed and hit the tight, twisty turns with speed. The creek crossing are nice too.
The description says the fastest lap is 9 minutes but that is very old news. I have heard it is much, much faster than that, like 7 minutes or a bit more.
Take advantage of the August race one of the local bike shops put on as they open up the land next to this trail, and it is sweet, sweet riding, really neat creek crossings and creek side runs, a couple short climbs, and a fun, gravel road style downhill.
