Vance Trail - TRAIL

Vance Trail - Trail, Liberty, Mississippi

This trail is exclusively tight singletrack. The topography ranges from hills to riverbottom in about equal portions. This is a fairly technical trail with some difficult side hill descents and river bluff hugging sections

This is NOT a trail that I would recommend anyone invite a new rider to. It is more of a challenge in endurance controlling the steering. The start of the trail had some fairly nice markings with orange flagging which was not consistent towards the last 20% of the trail. The last 20% of the trail was also in water and not enjoyable. There are roots throughout the trail. One problem with these is that the trail hovers over the bank next to the river. Experienced riders should not have any problems but novice riders may be replacing their rims or landing in the river. I agree with the others comments on lots of single track. It is a different kind of trail to check out but there are others in the area that are much more enjoyable to goto on a regular basis.

Customer Service

Counter Clockwise seemed fine. At least that way if the last 20% of the trail is under water like it was for me it will be at the end of the ride.

Hooper Road in Baton Rouge - Novice and Advanced sections.

Ruston - Maintained very well. Physically not as demanding as Clear Springs. Great place to get someone into riding more.

Last time I tried this trail in the spring, it was unrideable from the trees down due to the hurricane. If anyone knows if this trail has been repaired, please post.

Did a race on this trail. two 10 mile laps. one of the least exciting rides i've ever done. a couple of fairly technical sections by the river that were fun. a couple of quick down hill sections w/ a good bit of gravel that i liked. one rather intence climb. that's all i liked because the rest of the trail has roots every two freakin' feet. not small root either. Butt blistering roots. I hate that crap. roots are fine when you have plenty of other stand out sections that make it worth riding. this trail was about 90% flat w/ as much roots as there is dirt. you can't get lost. when in doubt, follow the roots. hard to maintain good speed here. too bumpy. very boring ride. Sorry MS. people. if you like this trail then you should ride in other states. just about every trail has roots, but they don't all suck.

Really fun, flowing trail. Adrenaline junkies and climbers may be disappointed, but if you enjoy settling into a fast smooth flow, it delivers. Just what the doctor ordered after a 95degree day of hammering at Clear Springs..... give your legs a break and have some tight twisty fun. Props to the guys who put this trail in and maintain it - I wish I'd made it out sooner, and I'll DEFINITELY be back. Thanks, and good job!

Customer Service

Drop by the trailhead for a map. Watch for the orange tape, and don't fall in the river.

Very good sinlgle track! Bikes and Hikes are the only activties allowed on the trail(No Horses or motorized vehicles). The trail is maintained by the locals (Thanks! Tommy, Richard and Frank) The trail is 9 miles in length and all wooded. Very nice layout. There is also Camping at the site. There are bridges that cross several streams as you go.

Really great trail. Alot of effort in the trail layout. Plenty twisties. A little water, a little mud, a little sand, a little hard pack. This trail had it all. I WILL RIDE IT AGAIN.

Super trail. If you ride it the right way from the trail head(where the mail box is) there is a short downhill section of tight singletrack and gravel. If you want a fast ride then ride the trail in reverse(clockwise). You catch all of the downhills this way, be careful you don't bail into the river. It gets close at times. Lots of fun for everyone from beginner to hotrods. Good place for the family to come for a camping and riding weekend. We ride it almost every saturday at about 4:00PM(before the early dark of winter gets here)if any one is interested in a big ride

Lots of fun! Tight, twisty, technical! Laid out real well! Thanks Guy's! Had a couple of muddy spots, but we rode through it all without stopping. Some reroutes are probably needed near the river edge as the trail is literally hanging, but you can go to the side as needed. Be sure to try the mega climb across the road on the last Mile or so. Very few will make it without pushing! Grat fun, we will be back!
