Bayou Point - Trail, Hernando, Mississippi

Bayou Point - Trail, Hernando, Mississippi

DESCRIPTION

Somewhat tight and technical in areas. Fun ridden in both directions, if ridden counter clockwise there is less climbing but if ridden clockwise there are a few decent flowing downhill sections. A few log rides mixed in near the trailhead with more fun stuff in the works throughout the trail.

Nice trail. It is currently about 5.5 miles long with a surprising amount of elevation change for this area. There are some tight twisty parts and some nice flowy parts, but nothing I'd consider very technical. The trails are very well maintained and drain well after a rain. There is a nice vista view of Arkabutla Lake along the trail. If you are in the area, give them a shot.

Customer Service

I prefer to take a left at the trail head (CCW) but it is good the other way too.

Trail is in great shape. It has been well maintained. It drains well after all the rains we have been having, but the trail crew asks us to wait 24 hours before riding.

I ride it counter clockwise starting at the bathrooms adjacent to the playground. It starts with tight slow corners, but it opens up after you cross the road for the first time.

The whole loop is about 5 miles. There are short sections off the main trail that add whoop de doos. There are a few short technical features to play on, too.

I have just moved to the area and this trail was the first one I have ridden since moving here in January. The trail was short but pretty fast and flowy. I'm used to trails that are a little more technical but I really enjoyed the tight twists and turns this trail offers. The Mid-South Trail Association has done a great job maintaining the trail as well as developing man-made features to spice things up if you so so desire. I'm looking forward to bringing the whole family out there many times in the future!

Customer Service

I have only ridden the trails ccw and it has been a blast.

Quite a bit of elevation changes and all the switchbacks you could ever wish for but it does have a very nice flow to it. The trail is very well maintained and drains very well in the winter, rideable when most other local trails are a wet wasteland.

Customer Service

Ride at least two laps, one time each direction.

This trail is a must if you are in the area. The trail is not that long but it will give you a good workout with the elevation changes. The trail design and layout make good use of the terrain and can be challenging at a faster pace but still fun for beginning riders. The trail drains well and is always kept in great shape by local riders. There are great views of Arkabutla lake along the trail as well as plenty of pic-nic tables to relax and enjoy the area.

As the trail evolves it's refreshing to ride a trail that is real fun and also is evident of the forethought in the build. The trail seems to drain real well so the inherent flow comes from the natural layout and makes for good enough workout while enjoying a 'just technical enough' ride. I saw just about 5 miles for the lap and really had fun with the short and 'perky' undulations. Some of the turns are nice and tight to keep you on your toes, which is fun and does sharpen your handling skills but there were also moments when I wanted to 'let 'er rip' a bit longer. At the same time the use of space is very impressive. Like mentioned in other reviews, I rode both directions and it was a blast in each. The views of the water were also pretty darn nice. I had a chance to talk to the 'Ranger' @ BP briefly and they seem very receptive to future expansion which is a 'win-win' for all. Kudos to the builders hard work on the trail as well as keeping the relationship positive with the folks there. The facilities @ Bayou Point as a whole make it a fantastic place to go as a Memphis 'downtowner', You could bring lunch stuff and enjoy the huge selection of picnic tables in the area then after lunch ride more or enjoy some disc golf on the other side of the 'channel outlet'. I'll zero question make the relatively short drive to BP real often.

Great trail that is very well laid out and well taken care of. It uses the features of the terrain nicely and flows well. Has some cool log rides in several places throughout with new features being added constantly. Will definitely be making it back soon.

Customer Service

First ride I rode it ccw and it was great. Only had time to do that but cw would be great as well. It's only 5 miles so one of each and then another of your preference if time permits.

Nice tight singletrack that gets your heart rate going. Nothing super technical or tough, but the tightness of the turns will keep you on your toes. The trail does a great job following the terrain. The trail planner/creator stays on top of things and makes sure to keep the trail in top notch shape, including removing leaves a couple times in the winter so you can clearly find your way and just hammer. It was a real treat to join him on a ride and hear the work and reasoning behind different aspects of the trail. More mileage is in the works, I hear.

Nice trail that makes great use of the local terrain to get a good workout. There is good flow to the trail and it never seems to crowd out the trail. I only ride the trail in each direction once, but that was a good workout compared to the flatter trails the area is known for.
The new section off the trailhead is a complete blast, dropping in and riding the berms is great. This is a great addition to the local trails.

Customer Service

Either way... Start c.w, then c.c.w.
