North Country Trail MI20 to Nichols Lake - TRAIL

North Country Trail MI20 to Nichols Lake - Trail, White Cloud, Michigan

20 miles of fast single track, rolling hills, several stream crossings with well maintained foot bridges, mix of dense forest and open meadows. Ride it there and back for roughly 40 miles or make a loop and return via the country roads. Incredible training ride. Low traffic old school mtb biking. For those days when you want to get away from it all and crank your bike. Every Michigan rider should ride it at least once. Let someone know where you went, it''s remote and that''s the point.

Mixed growth forest Singletrack out of the hot summer sun. No rock gardens, small roots. Mainly smooth trail. Not technical or steep. Not especially "flowy" but a good mix of short climbs and fast downhill sections. I rode to 6 mile road from #20 which is a bit more than 7 miles one way and then rode back to 20 the way I came. It seemed to be uphill a bit from #20 to 6 mile road and downhill on the way back but not much difference. Some sandy bits at the bottom of climbs / descents and in corners are boggy / slippery for turning but there are also small berms for faster turns. If you live or are visiting in the area then check the trail out as places to ride in the Fremont / Newaygo area seem a bit limited.

Customer Service

From #20 to 6 mile road the trail is described as "easy". North of 6 mile road the trail is described as "easy - intermediate". I ran out
of time to go further than 6 mile road as I needed to get backtrack to my car. As far as I can tell there are no loops so you basically have to pick your starting point and the distance you want to ride and then ride out half way and back.
