This is a fine lightly used trail system.
I have seldom seen more than 2 or 3 riders out here, probably because of the semi-rural location. I imagine that a few savvy college students from Central Michigan ride here. Part of the trail runs near M-10, adjacent to a river. I have been told that if you carry your bike under the freeway, there are additional miles of trail on private land. The owner (supposedly) does not mind riders, except during hunting season. You might want to ask around before trying this extended portion of trail, though.
Sanford, the nearest town, also has a rail-trail passing through it. I love the Pine Haven trail, but Sanford is very rural. Te food at the local restaurants is awful!

Very good work out take an average of 1/2 hour ridding up and down hills. The trails are well kept up. The wetter the better, there are ocassinal wet spots in the swampy areas. Overall it is well worth your time to come out and Mountain bike these trail. They very from novice to expert. Hey Have a good Day!!!

The single track begins about 30 yards from the parking lot, there is a trail marker right there. The trail is a pretty good time for those of us who don't have the time to drive down to Pontiac Lake or any other trail for that matter. The trails are linked so it is pretty easy to follow them, my avg. loop is exactly 4 miles.
And yes there are trails under US-10 if you want directions just send an E-mail and i'll try to respond ASAP.

Customer Service

Any of the single track, stay away from the fire road trails there kinda boring.

Single track trail is technical 3.5 miles. This trail was instaled by the north east chaptor of the Michigan Mountain Bike association with help from the Midland Co Parks. What it lacks in hills it makes up for in twists and turns there are some nice bridges over the wet spots. This is a wet area and should be avoided in the spring as it can be unrideable in the spring or after lots of spring rain. The best time to go there is in late may to fire arm deer season as hunting is allowed. The MMBA will be adding some expert trail some time in 2000 .I will up date you when it happens.Any one wanting to help or if you want more info please E mail me. See MMBA.ORG for maps

Inside the park is where most of the easier "Family" riding can be found. If you like to explore take the state land. Eventually you come to a split you can take the "South park" loop or stick next to the salt river for another ride.

Customer Service

The state land is were most of the good riding comes into play. You must cross under US-10. (stay to right when entering the park from the lot) From here you will cross under the overpass (keep to the right on the trail to go through the state land and cross US-10 multiple times.

Once you go under the west bound side of the highway you are now in Stubway. It is some very tight but manageable singetrack. There is a loop that will take you back through a 14 mile loop that is fun and challenging. The trail changes with the weather. It can be muddy everywhere or completely dry. If it is muddy beware of slippery roots they are all over the trail. It all depends on the recent weather. This trail is for experienced riders only. I have seen many people get injured on this part of the trail. Some of the local riders like to chop their bars down to better fit between the trees, but I ride it just fine with wide bars. If you need better directions just go to one of the bike shops in Midland and they will tell you where to go.

Customer Service

Head out on the trail that starts to the right of the parking lot and ride this until there is a singletrack split off. This will take you off to the right down to where you walk under the US-10 bridge. The park placed signs there last year stating that it is illegal to go past that point but there is nothing that they can legally do. Once you are past the bridge you are on State Land. Which means you are legally allowed to be there. There are no private land owners who own land there. It used to be owned privately owned but the State bought the land.

In spring... very wet. I went yesterday and about 1/4 was pure mud and standing water. It was a blast... bring a towel to put on the car seat, cause your gonna get dirty! All in all, it's a riot!

This 11-mile loop has lots to offer for experienced cyclists. It has lots of steep downhills followed immediately by steep uphills, so preserving your momentum is key! There are lots of roots and logs on this trail, so watch out as these will be slippery when wet. And speaking of wet.....if it has rained any time recently, and especially through early May, it can be extremely muddy. However, it's usually dry in the summer and much better to ride. This trail is not for beginner riders.

Very fun place to mountain bike close to where I live. It is the 1st exit after Sanford lake coming from Midland/Bay City, and turn left after the exit, and follow the signs to Pine Haven. I believe there is a trail under the overpass for US-10 that can be reached by riding the highest loop on the trail map(xc ski trail) and you should see a trail going towards the overpass. I have yet to ride this because the friends I ride with are not yet up to it. Trails the whole family can enjoy. I would rate a 5, but due to lack of mountains in michigan, a 4 seems fit. have fun mountain biking!

Customer Service

The technical singletrack is about 3.5 miles and makes for a great ride you can do in about 1/2 hour. Trails are very muddy in the spring, so bring a towel. Also try riding the black diamond cross-country ski trails for some fun downhills and climbs.
