Sweet singletrack with technical sections, short but steep climbs, and a rewarding view of Lake Charlevoix from the top. A local rider I talked to avoids the short/sandy decent route and rides the climb route back down making it a two-way track.
I thought there were a lot of places that would make this practice unsafe but the trail gets little traffic.
The trail is not well marked but seemed easy enough to follow. Lack of trail markings was the only reason this track did not get 5 stars from me.

Customer Service

The trail is started at the East end of the Avalanche Mountain parking lot but is difficult to identify with the walking path and disc golf paths in the same area. The trail entrance is just a few yards south of the disc golf tee box at the east side (left side of parking lot when facing the hill).

I love it! Thank you to those who made it! I've been two days in a row. If you are looking for a chalenging ride with the added bonus of boundless views of Lake Charlevoix, then this is the place. Hit the balance beam, carve the turns and smile. Stop and have lunch at Water Street Cafe (they have beer & wine now) après ride...

Another bonus this time of year (nov): no hunters to worry about. I hate Stray bullets! I think the whole area is a town park so hunting is a no-no thank you!

This trail is not for everyone, it's technical and will cause fights with your loved one if she is a novice! ;-)

Customer Service

I start at the right (looking up the mt) and ride counter-clockwise. It's a tuff climb with roots and steep spots but it's do-able all the way. Stop and take in the view from the top, then take the rollercoaster ride down! Do two or three laps and you will be ready for that brew...

Nice trail with some good climbs, tight switch backs, and awesome let it all hang out downhills.

Customer Service

Start at the left of the parking lot, pretty obvious single track. Take every left to the top, this will give you both extra loops. Turn around and head back the way you came up. This will give you +/- 9 miles. To get the full experience head across the parking lot to the steep short climb to the top, 2 big grunts. From the top head back down the same route you originally came up and down on. This gives you the best down hill runs twice and a total of 14.5 miles.

We rode this trail today and it was fun. It offers some good twisty switchback and a few technical sections as well as a decent climb if you ride the loop backwards(starting on the right side of the parking lot) instead of clockwise. There are a few small jumps and some quick bermed turns that keep you smiling. I personally would not drive to far out of my way for it though becuase of its length and not the trails terrain. ride safe!!

This trail is hands down, my favorite trail of all time. Very challenging uphills and fast sweeping downhills. Very technical at times, and great scenery. The face is always a blast to try to descend, but make sure your brakes are tuned properly!

Hollywood and Tin Man have clearly outdone themselves, they have just added an additional mile to increase the total length of the trail to 5 miles of awesome single track riding. The view at the top is a sight to behold and for the non riders in the group take the stairway to the top .
Try this trail, you will not be disappointed.

This is a very fun trail. Well-packed for the area, lots of tight twists and turns, and with some nice ups and downs. Going in from the far end of the parking lot it is true that you will be heading gradually uphill for about 3.25 miles, but you only really notice for the middle .75 mile or so. Once at the top ride out for the really amazing view (your non-riding friends and family can easily walk straight up the hillside and meet you). Water up there for you and even a bowl for your pet! Then, I highly suggest you turn around and ride right back down the way you came up. There is a quick descent, I have done it once, I guess everyone should, but flying down the other side is an incredible blast! Retain some remnant of control--it's a multi-use, two-way trail and those corners that were tight on the way up, well, I've slid off the trail in a couple places... Thanks to the locals who worked hard and long with the nature preserve to get permission and then put this very well-designed trail in!

Customer Service

Do the four mile loop so you will know the whole trail. Then ride up the 3.25 and right back down it.

4 mile trail, the first 3 miles are basically uphill (although not entirely). The last mile of the trail is a great downhill run. There is a disc golf course here as well and the bike trail crosses it a few times, but stay on the single track and you're fine. There's a small jump at the very end of the run. Winding switchbacks keep it interesting. Hardpacked dirt trails, you won't find much sand here. It's well maintained and a lot of fun to ride.

Customer Service

Look for a blue sign near the back of the parking lot, up a small hill where the disc golf course starts. Follow that single track, that's about it.
