Wrentham State Forest: Please treat our trails with common respect by not going around obstacles in the trail and making new trails. The trails are wide enough as they are and becoming wider due to disrespectful, selfish abuse by a few motorcycle riders who don't appreciate the beauty of Nature. This is home to many wild creatures we all love. We are just visitors. Let's all set an example for ourselves and others by staying on the trails. If we can't make it over the obstacles, we should carry our bikes over them ... not start a new "pansy" trail around the obstacles! You never know who's watching the condition of these trails and down the road may close them if we cause damage to the the terrain! Please think about it. The challenge of this sport is supposed to be about commitment, persevering, being tough on ourselves and practicing our technique until we can ride ANYTHING ... and isn't this why we do it in the first place? ... isn't this why YOU do it? Let's stick together on this now! From your trail riding friend, Red Leg

Crazy.... Crazy.... Crazy... Awesome rockfaces, sweet drops, and awesome views. An awesome waterfall about a mile in. This place is crazy, very technical, a very rocky place. Make sure you know what you are doing before you hit this place up. Wicked fun though.

Customer Service

Go in with at least 2 hours of sun light and then just ride. Awesome places on both sides of road, shorter routes stay on parking lot side, longer routes go across or into Plainville.

This place is almost all single track. It's very hilly (for this part of the country) and very rocky. I ride about 3 times a week during the summer, and play hockey in the winter twice a week, so I think I'm in pretty good shape, but not excellent shape. After riding here for an hour and a half (and a tube of Gu), I'm exhausted. The frequent rocks really wear you out. Those with good technical skill will enjoy this ride more than the ocassional rider. I like it because its very challenging, but not impossible.

Customer Service

Cross the street from the parking lot and explore the trails on that side fo the road. The trails on the parking lot side aren't bad, but there aren't as many and they aren't as challenging. Plus- motorcycles ride around in that side more and chew up the trails more than the opposite side.

How many singletracks are too many? Now you can find out.

The Wrentham State Forest in Southeastern Massachusetts is laced with an almost uncountable number of
motorcycle type singletracks, jeep trails, old logging roads and a few slightly maintained forest service roads.
Wrentham does not have a campground, lake, river or even a headquarters building. Just 1064 acres of well drained,
lightly hilled woodland trails. The forest is the center of most of the areas hunting activity. One special feature unique
to Wrentham is a singletrack under Route 495. But more on that later.

The DEM's Wrentham State Forest handout map does not show 90% of the existing trails that are in use. Too bad.
This means that you will have a great time getting yourself lost and found while you explore. Just remember the forest
is bisected by Route 495 which runs from East to West and by Taunton Street which runs from North to South. Any
paved road that you come upon other than Taunton Street is outside of the forest. And that knowledge, along with
the DEM map, is all you need to have a great ride.

Wrentham is familiar to local mountain bike racers as at least one great race is held in the forest each year. However,
the race course only uses a small portion of the forest's trails. To get a better picture of the forest's potential try this.
Park at the Eastern edge of the forest in the sandpit behind H.O Penn. This is located at your first left hand turn
North of the intersection of routes 495 and 1. Then, keeping the traffic noise on your left, try to ride all of the trails
that are closest to the highway fence as you proceed West. When you reach the second paved road, (route 1A), you
will be out of the forest. Retrace your route to the first jeep road that heads left (North) and ride the most defined
trails as you head back towards the start. At the minimum this will net you 4 miles of singletrack atv trails on your
Eastern leg and at least 6 on your way back. With this brief introduction to the forest you're ready to explore. And
explore you will. The 100 singletrack sidetrails that you've noticed so far will lead you to 100 more singletracks,
singletracks, singletracks and so on...

Now for the surprise. Remember that drainage culvert you noticed along your way West? It leads under route 495
and connects to the trails in the Southern portion of the forest. Try it! Although the inside of the pipe is a little
slippery, it is ridable. And it's a kick being under the traffgic for a change.

Continuing on, the jeep trails on the South side of the forest lead to a vast array of motorcycle, jeep and ATV trails
that run through Plainfield, Attleborough, North Attleborough and even into Rhode Island. Bring along a local town
road map to help you find a quick way back to your start.

Wrentham State Forest recently constructed a new parking lot and trailhead. it's located on Taunton Street in the
center of the forest, and it has a copy of the `good' map on it's signboard. To get there head South from the
intersections of routes 495 and 1 and take your first left. That's Taunton Street. Follow Taunton Street until it crosses
under route 495 and look for the parking lot on your left.

A few cautions: During hunting season the trails are closed on saturdays, holidays and all week during deer rifle
week. If you get lost, try following the widest trails that you can find. They always lead out to a street, eventually.

Riding in Wretham will test your limits. Not many hills, and not much mud, but the difficult, technical singletracks
seem to go on forever, and in fact much farther than you will. Why not find out for yourself.

This is my favorite riding spot in the area. It's as extensive as Foxboro Forest with only about a quarter of the traffic and less erosion.

Follow the yellow triangles nailed to signs. The Warner Trail is a kick in the northern end of the Forest.

Go into the woods up the main trail head on the right of Maidison Street (heading south) and go up every little single track hill that you can find. The obscure trails are the hardest and the best. Bony with nice rock faces and some drop offs. The main loops are fast and fun for intermediate riders. There is equally good riding in the SW corner of the forest along 495 up to Rt 1A. There is a way to connect Wrentham SF with Foxboro SF and put together over 25 miles of all singletrack......but I'm not tellin. Hint: warner Trail

What it lacks in quality and it makes up with quantity. Ride, Ride, ride. Some nice descents and climbs. That pipe under 495 is rideable but it is more slippery than a pig in shit. I fell in the pipe the first time in, landed down hard with my bar end spearing me bad in the back. Could barely walk for two weeks. Be careful. Got back a few times after and enjoyed myself withou major injuries.

Go in and get lost. Ride forever.

Great place to spend a day, when i lived in the area I would go 3-4 times a week when it was warm and 1 a week in the winter. It never gets boring, it has some nice features too. Lots of trails, it connects to Foxboro state forest, and if you ride south enough on the other side of the highway, and then swith over to the power lines for a little bit there is a great chinese buffet place (they dont mind if your all muddy). Plus there is a good view of Boston from several points in the park. Watch out for hunters and bring lots of water.

Customer Service

From the parking lot on taunton st, cross the road and turn left there is a fire gate a litle ways down. Go in and start climbing as often as possible, when you don't think you can go up any more (there should be lots of dead trees) there are a two or three trails you can choose from coming down the south and east sides of the hill, real fast all singletrack. Once you got your adrenaline running just pluck around.
