Mittineague Park - Trail, West Springfield, Massachusetts

Fairly easy trails in relatively small area of woods that occasionally lapse into civilization and back to woods. There is a constant hill on one side that you can fly down and climb back up in several areas. At the bottom of the hill is an active train track, with a level trail that goes parallel right next to it. More trails that run parallel at the top of the hill intertwine, mostly level, so you may choose level riding and then go up and down the steep but short hill between the lower trail and the higher trails.

If you take some of the trails back the direction you started, but left of where you entered (towards right when you're heading BACK to the starting point) you'll eventually shoot across an open field (with a grassy trail) to another wooded area, where there are some more hilly trails. This will also take you to the 2nd entrance point mentioned in the directions. This probably sounds complicated but it's not, I've just ridden here alot. Discovery will yield some neat little trails all over the place.

This is a trail I ride on a regular basis out of convenience. It's close to where I live, and I can go there and get my exercise and have some fun while doing it. Experienced riders may be unimpressed, but if you're local you may want to go for a nice afternoon ride. The trails and their style are pretty much outlined in the description above. There is alot of mostly level riding with some dips but if you want to catch some speed in a hurry drop down one of the many trails on the afforementioned hill. The trails vary in steepness and watch out for leaves that render your brakes useless. The clear trails are obvious before you take the plunge. Climbing back up a hill trail gives an intense workout. The hill trails are quite steep but fairly short. Like mentioned at the bottom there is a train track, and you'll most definitely see a couple trains go by while you're there riding. Riding along the parallel trail at the bottom racing a train is rather exhilarating. Further exploration and you'll find other twisty, hilly trails that aren't incredibly demanding, as well a grassy trail that goes along high tension wires. All in all, a good workout, and many trails compacted into an area smaller than your usual hiking/mountain biking areas.
