Bradley Palmer State Park - Trail, Topsfield, Massachusetts

Bradley Palmer State Park - Trail, Topsfield, Massachusetts

DESCRIPTION

Ive only been here once so far but the riding was excellent and the trails are extensive. The trails are mostly wide single or double track that occasionally intersect with paved or gravel paths. All are well traveled, marked and maintained. There are multiple trailheads but the main entrance and parking area are clearly marked from Rt1. Beware of NO PARKING signs. I here they love to write tickets there. The trails range from beginner to moderately advance. I didnt come across anything that was a serious technical challenge, no major climbs or descents but still plenty of fun to be had. Youll come across lots of pedestrians around the major trailheads so stay alert. Once you get deep into the trail system though youll probably only see other riders.

To the rider being a jerk about horses and their all-natural byproducts: "share the trail", just like share the road, and be a gentleman about it.

The rail-to-trail Bay Circuit around Bedford is pretty nice (very easy) less busy with pedestrians than one might imagine.

Mostly doubletrack/fire road with some technical signletrack. I like to ride here because it is fast and you don't have to worry about going over the bars. It is just a nice, relaxing place to have fun with your bike agian. Many intersections and trails. But, almost all trails are very short, so unless you know where you're going, you may have to use the map a lot. BUT BE WARNED! There is horse sh!+ all over the place...be prepaired to eat some while bombing down a hill.

I'm a freerider and an XC racer, but I still like the place. No jumps, very little tech. difficulty, but it is fun.

Not all people like this place, but I just love it!

Start out on the paved road. Many trails off of that.

Tons and tons of good smooth trails. There are some short, fun climbs and descents. There's a trail which runs along the Ipswich River which is very fun and has some short moderately technical sections and is very root-laden. Be on the lookout for unmarked single-track! There's tons. Let yourself get lost and you'll find lots of really fun stuff.

Customer Service

I usually enter via the little trailhead which is before the parking lot, on the left, if you're going from Hamilton to Ipswich on Highland St. After that, improvise!

BP is great for beginners or speedplay. Be vigilant for peds, equests. Willowdale sl.less crowded; also if you have time, try following white blazed Bay Circuit Trail . Not many rocks, drops, tech stuff. Decent 1 track can be had if you are on the lookout.Lots of deer!

Customer Service

lots of intrweaving in park itself; rec. heading across Ipswich river into Willowdale SF.

This is a good trail for beginners but you'll grow bored quikly if you're an intermediate or beyond. It's a small park so you can easily double back on yourself and ride the same stuff over and over. On nice weekend days its crowded and during the muddy spring the horse tear a lot of the trails to crap. It takes effort to find enough trail to ride this park for more than 2 hours or so.

Customer Service

Take the trail that starts nearest the headquarters building. It leads to some fun singletrack down along the river.

Both Willowdale and Bradley Palmer are nice intermediate trails with some single tracks that can put your skills to the test. Lots of runs to get some speed. Lots of miles to wander around for the day. Watch out for horse do-do!!!

Customer Service

Park along Topsfield Rd. by the Ipswich River bridge and you can enter either Bradley Palmer or Willowdale Forest from there.

Rode with a NEMBA group here. Had a nicely paced 11 mile ride combined horsepaths and single track. Not too many rocks, many roots on single track. Great place to spend a few hours in the woods or to ride fast. Some nice switchbacky singletrack if you can find it and the trail along the Ipswich river is cool (lots of roots and mud!) Would love to explore in here a little more and see what I can find! Quite a few hikers, walkers, a few horses, very few bikers, not too crowded! As always, be courteous to other park users!! Thanks to Derrick for leading a great ride!

I would recommend for a "nice" ride for most skill levels..great for beginners! Nice scenery..what more can I say!!

Customer Service

Not too familiar, but look for hidden singletrack off the bridle paths.

Good trails for beginners to intermediate riders. I covered about 75% of the trails in 1 1/2 hrs. I came across one trail leading down from Blueberry Hill that was pretty wild because it had been washed out by recent rains. Maps are available at the headquarters building. If you go to parkmaps.com, you can find all the parks with on line maps.

Customer Service

Try all the trails, the park isn't that large.

This place is FUN! There are a bunch of hidden single tracks that can get pretty hairy, with some pretty steap inclines and delines that have some sharp turns so watch out, if you can find them. I've been riding it for a while now and still come up on a place I haven't been. there is also a bridge that we put a small jump at the end that you can catch some good air but you need to watch out there are hikers and boaters there all the time and the jump never lasts for more than a day or so. Still a good time.
