Wompatuck State Park - Trail, Hingam, Massachusetts

Wompatuck State Park - Trail, Hingam, Massachusetts

DESCRIPTION

Not too difficult, some technical sections. Nice wooded area, VERY clearly marked trails, and very hard to get lost. Lots of fire roads provide an easy way back if you do get turned around. There are also campsites you can use to make it into a nice weekend. Very close to boston (~30min) make it a great day trip too. Nothing really advanced, but a great mix of easy to intermediate trail riding. Very fun. Great place to take someone to introduce them to mountain biking.

Thank God for Wompatuck. I've of late been in a depression brought on by New England's lack of fast tight trails until I've met Wompatuck. It likely saved my crumbling mental status and made my recent $3600 purchase worth it. The trails, ridden once and for 4 euphoric hours, are typically either fast, tight and straight, or twisty and technical, but enough to make things interesting without being jarring. In other words, perfect for me. For those looking for a nice long aerobic workout with use of the barends, I would look elsewhere, but give Wompy a chance. The ups and down are pretty much relegated to about 50 feet. The one exception I encountered was Prospect Hill, and even that is like a lesser hill in Blue Hills. I found a couple nice manicured drops and a "Jumping Line" that I'll likely never find again in Wompy's vastness. In terms of fauna and flora, I didn't see much.

Customer Service

The trails termed NW were all very nice, and shooting right down to the S trails to Prospect Hill were fast, a little wet, and grand. All other trails were great, but to a lesser extent. I think the drops and jumps were more or less around the S to W parts, though I wish I knew where specifically.

None. Blue Hills is stupid except if you have levitational powers and lungs of Lance Armstrong. And oh, if you enjoy not reaping the benefits of an uphill climb by crashing downhill for 30 seconds. Borderland, terrible. Foxboro-ruined by motorcycles. Leominster was awesome however. Look for my review there soon, if I haven't depressed you too much. And oh, Vietnam of course.

Great single track .. a bit wet in the spring...
Make sure you grab a map~~ at the Rangers Station or in any of the kiosks that you will see at any of the trial heads.
Lots of parking and a busy place!
Make sure you climb Prospect Hill.. there are 3 routes down.. The two trails at the top near the bench to the right will get your pulse up!
Lots of roots and rocks ...just a fun place to ride. Well suited for group rides.
The park trails are well marked with numbers.. not names .. and the map is new and up to date. The park is clean and well maintained due to the awesome work of Ranger Stever Gammon.

Singletrack with lots of roots and rocks. Good but short climbs. Some are nearly impossible. Can ride for hours w/o seeing the same thing twice. There are trails that go everywhere, some are a good workout and there is a lot of technical stuff with some decent drops. Typical New England woods with lots of variety on the single track from mud to roots to rock gardens. All-mountain bike is best. (I have a prophet)

Customer Service

We ( 6 or 7 of us ) enter from Cohasset through Whitney Thayer woods. Loop around to the reservoir and follow the NEMB race route. After that get a map and explore. If someone says it is too easy, then they have NOT gone looking. There is good stuff for all levels, and when you are on something a little tame, GO FASTER. Stay off the paved roads except to get to another trail head. Some of the old ammo bunkers are fun to go up and a blast to fly down. Most technical section is at NS2. Go 50 feet in and see trail on right. Stay left at the 1st major intersection of trails (more of the same hard tech rocky stuff)

Something for all except the extreme freerider or downhiller-and even they can have a good time. My friend brings his Big Hit here on occasion. There is a playground with some steep drops that's mildly hidden. It's not far from the main road closer to HQThere's too much to cover in one day. Lots of fast and technical riding. Well marked too-if you have a map. I love this place. I ride here until the snow is too deep.

there are plenty off rolling hills with some very rooty sections but overall its nice cruisng terrain. One nice Downhill but hard to find. There is also a man made section with some nice teater totters and such. Man made stuff is great but needs to be built up more.

Customer Service

Just go in the main entrance and go off into the woods on the right of the road just after the building near the main parking lot.

hey reganized. i have been riding here forever, and recently started back again. i forgot what a good time it can be. little of everything. i wish there was a little more in the freeride department, but the boards and steep hills can be fun. All riders will find something in their ability.

Customer Service

Its down past the High school from me. Easy to get to from the highway.

well marked, great woodsy scenery with ponds, paved trails, sleazy rock gardens, some big drops, brutal single track, and some man-made jibbin' stashes (for you to find).

Customer Service

if your in south weymouth, jackson square area, go straight past all the intersections (going towards hingham), keep strait past the CVS on the left, and don't turn for a few miles until the wompatuck sign on the right.

there is tons of single track in Hingham, but its kinda hidden. Try behind plymouth river school, Cranberry Pond, and Moore Brewer. Many are actually connected...be creative.
