Cosca Park - TRAIL

Cosca Park - Trail, Clinton, Maryland

Short, ups and downs, around a lake and over some power lines. Close to D.C. though.

Cosca has 6 miles of newly built single track that ranges from flowy section to steep up and downs and tight and twisty. It's fun but it needs to have some wheels on it to bring out the best in it. You can get about 12miles by reversing the loops and mixing them up.

Unfortunately these trails are overgrown now and easy to lose the path. They seem to have great potential, but would require some trail maintenance to bring them back to life.

When I first moved to Clinton about 10 years ago and went to the bike shops in the area, the first thing I asked was where are the good trails? The first thing out of everyone's mouth was "Cosca Park." This spot has 2 sides to it. Going around the lake is good for a quick warm up, and then going into the woods is great. There are good hills and some technical sections that give you some challenges, but there is another section that deserves your attention. If you travel along Thrift road just past the baseball fields, right before you get to the houses, there is an entrance to another part that gives a nice challenge. You're greeted by a quick downhill descent and then a nice climb. There is a technical section that comes up next and then you will see that the trail splits where you can go right or keep straight. Go to the right and there is a short little technical section that will open up to a field. Go through the field and you will see that there are quick fireroads that go for a few miles. This is a good spot to work on your stroke and form and they are fun too.

This is a great trail for all expereince levels. There are some challenging trails while there are also some very basic trails. There is somthing for everyone. It is only for local trips although. The trails really kinda intertwine themselves. Overall, a good time if you live close.

Not the longest, or most technicle trails, but a fun place. if you push yourself, poke around a little to find all the different trails, and lighten up a little, there is definently fun to be had. There's a nice set of dirt jumps here also. Don't be paranoid wus either, your not going to get shot.

I like to ride around the lake for a pleasant mostly-non-paved trail with little to contend with other than some bridges and roots. There are lots of more technical trails leading off in the woods proper, so it's worth checking out to see what trails you can find other than the obvious.
Personal note: I've lived near this park my entire life so I'm quite fond of it in general. I've never had any problems there.

I've tended not to do much exploring and just park at the parking lots near the playground and go around the lake, to the nature center, etc; I'm a beginning mountain biker, though.

No it isn't a very long course but it can be alot of fun if you leave the lake area. Not challenging enough? Try going faster. It takes a little imagination but we have found some really fun little spots here. Also a great trail running spot (probably a better trail running spot than a cycling spot) And Mr. Thuglife? Only run-ins I have ever had were with uptight horse people. If Cosca is your "turf" you must be a pretty pathetic thug. What do you guys do? Hit a blunt and then go knock down some 40s at the Farmer's Market?
Give it a shot if you are nearby. I find it alot more fun than Cedarville down the road. Maybe I missed something there though. It seemed very sedate.

Customer Service

Take singletrack along stream to back area. Cool down around lake. Nice washed out trails run parallel to lake. small but fun.
