Black Hill Regional Park - Trail, Boyds, Maryland

Black Hill Regional Park - Trail, Boyds, Maryland

DESCRIPTION

In the main park there is a paved trail that connects the parking lots. The paved trail leads to dirt trails. Hard Rock trail is the longest. Field Crest Trail runs in circles through a field. Cabin Branch Trail has nice climbs and downhills as well as a small "rope" bridge. Tarilhead #2 has trails with great views of the lake. Several loops, easy to get lost.

Beginner, fast and fun (if you like exercise!)

Customer Service

I am a beginer, i guess? 4-years riding Black Hills PArk. The front side (by the visitors center is pretty tame. Get on the other side (long loop to get there) and it gets a little more exciting. There is very little log jumps and about 3 good stram/creek crossings. We ride the obvious 10 mile loop (some of it is back tracking) and we try to do it in under an hour.

I think black hills is alot of fun. Its a great beginner trail.. But even for experienced riders its still fun... If you jump on "cool spring run" it has some extremley steep ups and downs.. but isnt a long trail.. "Hard rock" is a somewhat tech. trail with a few gfood rock jumps.. alotta fun..

Very easy trails. I usually rollerblade on them. The place is packed in the summer weekends because of its proximity to washington DC and the diffivulty of the trails. Popular place for beginers.

The back side trails are seldom used by bikers and have several creek crossings. There are very steep climbs. At the top there are great views of the lake.

Customer Service

Try all the trails, I like the Hard rock trail and the Cabin Branch together.

Nice trails with alot of small rocks and exposed roots. Not bone jarring but makes you feel like you are in the WV mountains(if you imagine hard enough, really hard. Little creek crossings and some muddy sections. Be cool and swing around them when wet and when drying out be cooler and rub them back down smooth with front tire so they dont take these trails away from us too.

Customer Service

Link Cabin branch with hard rock and include and spur. In other words you can do every trail in the park ~10 miles and reverse for another 10.

I link Seneca creek state park around clopper lake out to rifleford road then to schaffer farm trail system then to Black hills. And when I get real aggressive I go onto little bennett and back to germantown via 121 and clopper road. Excellent 45 miler with time to stretch those legs out on the road between parks. Vorshoe bikers live.

Schaeffer farms was closed yesterday - went over to ride Black Hill for the 2nd time ever. Besides a lack of technical challenges (which I don't really mind), the trail seems to lack a certain... what? Flow? Should I ride in Reverse?

Customer Service

Start at the Visitor Center - ride all the trails in the park.

Singletrack with small downhills and uphills excep for one steep rutted out downhill. One or two logs to jump over and a cuople 3-4 foot drops. You should check the drops before doing them because sometimes there is a small streem at the bottom of one. (Don't go after it has just rained it gets very muddy in some places). This trail is mostly begginer. P.S. Some people ride dirt bikes back there and don't watch out for bikers, so be careful.

Customer Service

Any route.

I make a regular (3-4 weeks) loop through my neighborhood and pick up large pieces of the Black Hill Trails, they are easily accessible through the Waters Landing subdivision. For an easy "sightseeing" tour, pick up the trail from Wisteria, just past Wanegarten and follow the asphalt trails to where it leads into the park near the park contact station (#1 on the PDF map). From there, pick up of several loops through the official parks and make your way back out to civilization via the trail connector that leads to Crystal Rock Drive.

The stuff around the Hard Rock trail and Cabin Branch trail is all really pretty easy; most of it can barely be called singletrack. Good place to take beginners for first taste of actual trails. There is some harder stuff in another section of the park. It's kinda hard to find. From the boat center/main parking area, go back out the entrance road and take a left on the road that crosses the lake. Follow until you get to a main road (either CLarksburg or W Old Baltimore, can't remember. Follow for a bit then look for trail heads on your left. There's some real steep stuff back in there, lots of fun, but this section is pretty small. The grassy doubletrack stuff in the far reaches of this section isn't much fun either. The whole park is real pretty tho.

Customer Service

Look for the hard hidden stuff on the other side of West Old Baltimore Road.
