Cabin John Trail - Trail, Bethesda, Maryland

Cabin John Trail - Trail, Bethesda, Maryland

DESCRIPTION

the trail goes along a stream and at the end there is a couple of differt loops. It is all single track. and the best part is its a five minute drive from DC! the trail is one way and you have to cross a bunch of roads. so its imposible to get to lost. there is one section that is wierd though. if you are coming from river road you take a left when you get to a road called Seven locks then you take a right on domocracy and the trail is on the far side of the road.

The Cabin John Park Trial provides around 8 miles of unpaved biking trails from Goya Drive to River Road. Here's video I shot from Goya Drive to Democracy Blvd.

There is also a supplemental section of trail that was recently cut out just for bikes around the Robert C. McDonnel Campground off Tuckerman Lane. It's more demanding than the CJP Trial, and it's so new it's not shown on any maps I've seen.

It's an easy trail, but does get confusing. The first time I went me and a buddy couldn't find the next part to the trail, because it came out on Seven Locks Road. So we had to drive home over roads. Anyone know were it keeps going?

Customer Service

I would recommend to get on at River road. The trail starts across of Carderrock Springs drive. This trail is easy to get along on, (biking and hiking) Follow the trail all the way to Seven Locks.

Good trail for being right next to the beltway. I've been riding this sections of this trail frequently this summer. The section south of river road is not worth checking out right now. It is not maintained and really overgrown. There are also warning signs from WSC of some sort of sewage contaimination to the area. All of the other sections are in great shape, though I think the section between democracy and seven locks is much more difficult than the other sections.

Customer Service

If you are a new rider you might want to stick to the sections north of democracy.

This is a great trail for riders at any level. It has a variety of different obstacles, and has many different legs of the trail (i.e. Cabin John to Seven Locks, Seven Locks to River Road, etc.) It is maintained very well, except for when the occassional hurricane decides to pay a visit. However, if there are too many changes made to the trail we will lose our privalege to ride it, SO DONT SCREW IT UP! Anyway, I would highly recommend it to anybody of any skill level.

Customer Service

Cabin John to Seven Locks, then Seven Locks to River Road and back, or vice versa.

Thanks to whoever rerouted the trail around the monster logs. Recent trail work makes this ride a pleasure again. Hurricaine Isabel knocked a lot of trees down and now they have finally been dealt with.

Customer Service

Start at River Rd near seven locks and ride northwest following the blue paint markers to the playground/kiddie train and loop back.

Basically this is a great local trail. I've only MTBed a few times but i love it. My dad used to a lot but now i have his old bike, but he did it on a hybrid so its not very challenging but it's a lot of fun. I'm still bitter because I blew the chain off my bike and didn't get to finish, but b/c I live in bethesda it's very convenient and a fun little ride for all levels of rider.

Customer Service

I like to start at the nature centre on democracy and ride some of the loops around there then take it back that way and daringly dash across 7 locks and Democracy and a little ways after the sidewalk on demcracy ends finish up the the rest then turn arounda and head back.

The trail is very beginner oriented, it's basically where I learned to ride. Five years ago before the area was hit was some serious storms, it had some nice techincal areas, but they were mostly washed away. There is a really cool hill before the seven locks section that I've never seen anyone ride up, and out of the dozens of people I know who ride it all the time, I know of three who've made it down in one piece. The loop at the Ice rink has some cool stairs and some nice hills too. it's a great after work trail, but not a weekend expedition.

Customer Service

If you want a decent length ride you've got to start at River just past Seven Locks and ride through to the Ice Rink and back.

Patapsco is great, but has been over run in the past couple years.... hope it gets maintained by a quarter of the folks who ride it.
