I had a 4 day 3 night package with meals and bike rental included. Lots of buff, smooth, flowy single track very well maintained and thought out. The stunts were all in good shape and were challenging but rideable by most, we had some relative newbies with us that did some. He had some good downhill techy stuff mixed in and we hit the entire trail system at least twice in four days, some trails three and four times which is great cause we got to really open it up after being familiar with them. Cliff did a great job of ensuring we had everything we needed and went over and above by offering us some extras outside of the package we signed up for. My girlfriend is a newbie and his instruction and teaching style was great for her, nobody could believe how much she improved in four days ! He took good care of me by bringing me out one on one to more advanced trails and sending me off with his other guide Doug so I could get my speed up and really challenge myself without having to wait for others. All in all a great trip and I would go back again. My ratings below are based on speed; if you go at a slow pace then it is easy and doable by anyone, if you go balls to the wall then you get your heart rate up and you can really work the trail !

Who ever wrotte, the first review, about this place, is 100% wrong, that's false advertising, this place is also listed as Backcountry White Mountains, which is the same place. Backcountry...! is a bunch of Bull Crap. Clif is a money seeker and does not really care about the sport. I was there on May 2010 and I was so disappionted since the beginning. Price is really high for a weekend out(camping)You will have to pay for everything, even for a smile!!!Trails are in bad shape, there is no trail marking at all. Freeride stunts, SUCKSSSS!!! they are falling apart and they have not been maintained in years. May be easy to get injured!!!
Food is not that bad. Yes, Clif seems to be friendly, but I can do that too, if I get tip for each smile that throw on the table,
There is a guy name KEVIN and he really rocksss, he live for the sport, he is a great mechanic and rider too!!!!
Bottom line, if your a newbie you may enjoy the hospitality at the beginning, until realize, that everything turns into $$$$ or Tips !!!
Trails and stunts need to be maintained and they need to be marked down!!!
Funny thing is, at the end of your trip, Clif will give you some freebies, like power bars and others, food is normally already expired, he gave me a bar that was expired in 2006 and I was there in 2010!!!! Hahahah that's no JOKE!!!!

Customer Service

no one,no trail markings, easy to get lost!!!

2010 marks 10 years that I've been going out to Backcountry and I wouldn't keep going back year after year if I didn't think it was worth it. The single track is fun, fast, and flowie. The stunts aren't hardcore, they were designed for cross country riders, which means they can be ridden without having a 6" travel freeride bike, yet they are still a blast. The facility is rustic and down to earth. One of the best parts though, is the people. Everytime I go out there, I meet people from all across the east coast who are great to hang with and ride with. Cliff and his guides are all about trying to show their guest a good time. Yes it costs a little, but if you can get out there for one of the big weekend events like the mirco brew festival, it is soooooooo worth it.

Customer Service

Must rides are Wild West, Needle Trail, Champion Pond, and River Giver.

My wife and I just got back from backcountry excursions. I would say that it is well worth the trip. The trails are very well designed and a lot of fun for all levels. Having Cliff the owner as a guide the whole weekend was great because you never have to look at a map and he keeps you aware of what is coming next. This place is fantastic for beginner and intermediate riders. Cliff not only acts like a guide but also a coach which can be hard to find in mountain biking. He really helped my wife get over her fear of bridges and helped her get better and more confident throughout the ride. There are also some well designed stunts which he tells you about and demonstrates which range from easy to difficult. They are very well maintained and very safe if you follow directions. The other really nice thing is that you have all the trails to yourselves. No one is allowed to ride without a guide so you never run into other riders which can get annoying at more popular places like the Kingdom Trails. Also the trails do not get washed out from over use. The only drawback is that as an advanced rider you are stuck at the pace dictated by the guide, but by the end we got our fare share of fast and challenging riding. The food is all home cooked and fantastic the only draw back is that you are expected to help with clean up and dishes which I could live without. All in all I would recommend this place. It is not of the level of the Kingdom trails but definitely a good time without the crowds.

The trails, bridges, and stunts are well layed out and constructed. If you like narrow sweet single track with perfect flow then you'll love riding here. It's a roller coaster from start to finish. Every climb is rewarded by a bomber down hill.

Stay on Cliff's rear wheel and have a blast!

The single track at BCE is awesome! Plenty to ride at any level. Cliff is a great host he went at our speed and level. We started out easy and worked our way up to more challenging trails. There is something here for everyone. Best single track we have ridden. Cliff has put a lot of work into making these trails the best and it really shows. Would go back without a doubt.

8/15/07 I attended the 14th annual fest at BCE this past weekend. It was my first time mountain biking. Prior to this experience my riding style was road. The trial offers plenty of single and double track, and a variety of easy to more difficult stunts. Cliff the owner guide was most hospitable for the 2 hour rides. The trails are well maintained and technically challenging, even for some of the more experienced patrons. I would ride there again. The experience opened a whole new way to enjoy cycling.

These trails rock. Smooth single track that flow like the Kingdom Trails (without the roots). The technical challenges come in the form of many well built stunts. For the most part, they are wide confidence builders (hardcore free riders will be let down). There are a few that are 6'-8'+ off the ground and skinny. I would not travel to Maine just to ride the stunts, but the combination of great single track and fun stunts make for an awesome ride. Cliff (owner/opperator) has a true passion for trail building and riding. We had a great time and will be back next year.

Follow Cliff. The trail heads are difficult to find. You will need a guide.

Having spent the vast majority of my time riding in northern New Jersey, its always a pleasure to head up to Maine to check out BCE's awesome singletrack. Cliff has got a heck of a set up between the trails, the playground, and some darn good food to go along with it. This is my second time visiting Parsonsfield and I wasn't disappointed. Multiple additions to the already large network of trails and a tour through the Expressway left me smiling for 3 days. Definitely check this out if you're anywhere near Maine. Heck, go out of your way to get up there!

Customer Service

I think there's a link in the description of the trail to BCE, so check that out. Call Cliff, he'll set you up with directions.

Back Country Excursions was recommended by a friend who i ride with, he had been there before, and we would definetly go again. the single track trails are endless, and the change in terrain goes on forever. good climbs, great down hill sections and very flowy flat portions. and if you by chance get bored with all of that, many of the trails have great stunts, bridges, sea-saws, jumps and drops for all levels of riders, you wont be dissapointed. my favorite part is the back yard, the rock log palace. and area is filled with fantastically built stunt that will get you going. have an idea for new stunts just ask, and you can build it. accomodations are rustic and food is great, and the hot tub.......... oh yeah!! bring your freinds it a great time.
