Ossipee River Trails - TRAIL

Ossipee River Trails - Trail, Oxford, Maine

Ossipee River Trails, is a mix of snowmobile, doubletrack and singletrack. The area of trails is located behind the S.Hiram Fire Dept on Allard Cir and extends eastward behind the Sacopee Valley Schools. You can also continue on the trail by riding through the Fairground and then exiting near the horseshoe pit. The trail continues along the banks of the north bank of the Ossipee River for about a mile. The trail then crosses the S.Hiram Rd. near the Durgintown Rd intersection and meanders thoughout the area.

Nice place to ride if your a local to western Maine hills, but probably not worth the drive if your outside the region. The main trail through the area is a double track used by the high schools XC team and can be used to access the singletrack trials. A overview of the singletrack trails: River Run is smoth and flowy and follows the north bank of the Ossipee River. Woodchuck is a bit twisty and rough. Whitetail is more of tha same. Black Forest trail is unique for its many underground springs and dense hemlock canopy. Clencher is a bit on the technical side, its a short bench trail on a steep slope above the beaver pond and includes some technical features such as large rocks and steep rollers. The Polliwog trail is a short easy loop near the end of Clencher and takes you out to a point where the Ossipee River rejoins after splitting around the islands. Cowpath trail is a short connector to the snowmobile trail. I have not found a map of this place yet, but its such a small area confined behind the schools and fairground there no chance of getting lost. The Durgintown woods area has been logged recently and is passable but very rutted from the skidder tracks.

Customer Service

River Run, Woodchuck, Whitetail, Black Forest, take the XC trail east to Clencher and then onto Polliwog. After Polliwog you can ride up the hill and take the Cowpath trail to loop back to the school fields or take the snowmobile trail east through the fairgrounds to Durgintown Woods.

Similar Products Used: Leavitt Plantation in Parsonfields, access from the Emerson Rd to the Emerson Brook Trail. Theres a number of ATV and Equestrian trails in the area all mostly unmarked. I have also seen an occasional singletrack trail in the area also.

A nice mix of single and double track along the river banks. Easy riding with nice views of the river. Some technical enhanced areas exist but can be avoided by ride arounds.

Customer Service

Park at the S. Hiram Fire Dept on Allerd Cir, and follow the trail along the river bank. This section is mostly singletrack. Through the fairgrounds and continue on the snowmobile trail to Durgintown where there is a nice double track loop that extends up to the apple orchards. Then return on the trails directly behind the athletic feilds near the Sacopee Valley schools. Not very challanging for the technically advanced rider, but fast and flowy.

Similar Products Used: Back Country Excursions and the ATV trails in N. Parsonfeilds.
