Four Seasons Trail - Trail, Madawaska, Maine

4 Seasons Trail has evolved from what was originally the nordic ski trail in Madawaska. A beautiful lodge was built in 2007 through donations and volunteer effort.

These trails are in their infancy and are simply paths through a relatively flat piece of forest, that also happens to contain some nice xc ski trails and lodge that was recently built. The trails are quite bumpy and need excavation to make them rideable and enjoyable. Definately consider these trails a work in progress.

Similar Products Used: Right across the border, in Edumundston, New Brunswick, Canada are some relatively new, but impressive trails being built by Edmunston Velo bike club, in colaboration with IMBA. Approx 12k of well planned and excecuted trails- located on the side of a mountain! Don't forget to bring your passport.

At the moment, these trails are growing rapidly. The area is a deciduous forest with the only open areas being near the trail entrance.

Of course there is still the original 5-mile ski loop. For MTB use, this trail is double-track width and is smooth, hilly terrain. Because there is not lots of traffic, the trail is not compacted dirt but rather grassy with a worn strip. It is somewhat soft, but not very slow because it has good drainage.

The snowshoe loop is roughly 5 miles as well, and is single track in the summer. This (2008) is the first year it is being used significantly for anything other than snowshoeing. In other words, it is brushy and somewhat technical in many places as of this writing. It crosses the main trail in many places.

I have heard there is a second 5-mile loop being constructed for skiing purposes. At the moment it is near the end of the planning phase.

You choose! The typical route for a ski race is counter-clockwise. There are trails connecting the right half to the left half several times, so it is really up to you what distance you want to do. I would estimate overall there is 6-7 miles of smooth double track and 4-5 miles of rough singletrack.
