Starts off at the Natl. Guard base near the baseball fields. Park there and ride past the gate, just dont ride when they are having target practice. They also do war-games/training there sometimes... anyway back to the trail. enter the woods and pass another gate (no atv's) and climb. Its probably less than a mile to the top but sections are pretty well washed out. there's plenty of loose stuff, rocks, sand and golf ball size things. there are plenty of ways up the hill other than the main trail. they pretty much all loop back to the main one but its easy to get kind of lost. once you hit the top smoke all the way down to hotel rd. i think that from the army base to the road is about 2 or 3 miles. cant remember. anyway its not too far and half is downhill. once you hit the road you can take a left and then hit the first right. down the rd to where the trail used to cut across that section of the rd. Some dude built a house where the trail used to go and blocked it off. anyway the trail is on the left of the rd and it goes all the way to Lost valley. BTW dont pay to ride at Lost Valley because its lame. Also watch for the section that passes by the Fish and Game shooting range. Dont get Shot. After that rock the power lines to where they come out near perkins ridge rd. Hit the orchard thru to the valley. all that really makes for a good ride. I am not sure if you can still do it all. People seem to be jusming on the "land Posted" bandwagon all the time. I am sure that they dont mean moountain bikers but try explainging that to some folks. For more fun do it at night and get lost! Really we were riding with Foster, thats why we took forever to get back... anyway you can just do the Mica Mines section to the rd and back for a short tech ride. or if you are feeling rugged do the whole thing to the valley and back. i think that is like 15 miles out and back. not sure. The Mt Appatite / Mica Mines section is as hard as you choose to make it. there are some pretty easy ways up and down the hill and the trails are easy to follow. want more difficulty, go faster.

On the NORBA tour we raced this trail and it was very nice to race on. I wish I hadn't rode the full
suspension though.

There are trail signs on the trees' for a cross country running/skiing trail. Take this and just follow the signs. This is a loooong ride you come out of the woods near Lost Valley. One of the best rides in the area that I know of. You will need a few hours for this ride atleast, to allow for getting lost a couple times. Also, if you plan to ride the entire trail you should probably have someone drop you off unless you want to ride back to your car on the road.

Customer Service

For a first timer to the area it is a bit confusing, so many trails!!! Just ride around and find what you like. Mt. Apitite AKA Micah Mines is off the Garfield road behind the baseball fields and Army training area.

I myself grew up right at the base of Mt.Apitite. The trail system that is in place now is much than it use to be. The trails offer all ability levels! If your looking for a 2-3 hour ride I highly recomend it. Hope to see you all out there!

Customer Service
