This section of the trail is shorter for half day rides. It too begins with a mile climb but gets easier on top as your riding mostly ridge line. Views are great. Mostly hard pack with some sand and rock areas. If you clean the section to the top, you're better than I. Once there, its really nice. This section is about five miles and crosses KY 89 where I stopped. Recommend going back on the trail as KY 89 is shoulderless and dangerous. One small stream crossing at beginning then be prepared to climb!!!

Go South on US 421 for about another half mile past and turn left on Elisha Branch road. The Trail head to the east section of the trail is on the right.

If you take KY 89 South from McKee to where the one lane bridge crosses the Rockcastle river, turn right at the trail marker. This is the other end of the western trail side. A good ride with a couple wet crossings(you will get wet). Kinda casual aside from that. Road open to motor vehicles as well so when you park, don't block the entrance.

I do not recommend this trail unless you have a full suspension and/or don't mind constantly dodging and being jarred by rocks. I drove all the way from Lexington and was very disappointed in this trail. It really is nothing more than a rocky two-track ATV trail that is like riding on a stream bed. Not fun.

I wish I had other trails to recommend. There is so much beautiful mountain area here that could provide some really great trails. They just need to be built. I would do it if I had the know-how and some help.

Absolutely an "ass kicking" 24 mile ride. In regard to previous review, true there are numerous rocks and roots to negotiate, so all you candy ass "rail to trail" riders should just stay at the house. Hop on the trail via Sandgap and follow trail to S-Tree Campgroud. Directly across gravel road from campground, proceed around a 4 mile loop and thereafter enjoy the awesome decent back to Sandgap. NOT for the faint of heart. Run this baby in the summer and it will "Whip your ass." Bring a fully loaded hydro!!!! A little nasty following rain.

I was suprised by this trail. I thought that this trail way out in cooterville was going to be dissapointing. It was fast, fun, and strenuous. Its built by and for ATV users, and occasionally you see one out there. But, its off road cycling at its finest with a couple long climbs, good fast descents, and some great moguls. I had a really good time. Now, if you guys would just get out there and work on the trail to get rid of some of those nasty waterholes by building funnels and waterbars, you'd have a top-notch trail. I would love to help, so someone get hold of me and I'll drive up from Hotlanta to work on the place with you.
I can't help but to think of the movie Deliverance while riding this trail...
