Waverly Park - TRAIL

Waverly Park - Trail, Louisville, Kentucky

Waverly is a great park. It is a combination of old ATB and four wheeler trails with handmade MTB single track....I believe in thanks to the KYMBA. The trails are somewhat technical with the park itself divided into a few different areas. There is no certain path to follow so experiment and find a loop you like. It's got tons of climbs, lots of half tight single-trac, and some decent downhills(One of which is called the Luge).

We had a great time on this trail. Highly recommended. Divided into 3 sections, front, middle and back. The front was really tough, lots of uphill. The middle was a lot of fun, mostly downhill, make sure you have brakes that work. Didn't get to ride the back. Go for it, great fun.

Flowy and fast with some decent twists and quick ups. I try to ride these trails whenever I can and IMHO, the trails here are perfect for SS riding. I would'nt say the trails are especially technical but they're not super easy especially if you're really moving. Just stay alert for hikers. There are plenty of places you can sneak up on hikers and have an unfortunate event. The

Customer Service

Do em all! You can spend an afternoon and ride all the trails. They all end up spitting you back at the parking lot/park areas of Waverly so you can't really get lost. Start at the parking lot at the trail head nearest to the plyaground. Then ride the back side of the trails first, you'll eventually cross the road and climb up. The climb is steep enough to give you a good workout and the descent is fun on the other side Just keep taking trails to your left otherwise you end up back at the parking lot, cutting your ride short and having to backtrack. Although you can hook back up with the back loop by taking the trails to your right. I know, not the best directions but if you ride here you can't really get lost.

Good training for climbing. I was suprised that it was so tough to climb. You can get away with a nice hardtail here, but I was rocking a dualie. Fast, steady downhills reward your climbing work. Loved my time there.

Customer Service

Ride it both ways if you want your time to be well spent. Great riding either way, which is a rare thing...

Great trail work done by locals (KYMBA). I was passing thru on may way back to St. Louis and found this trail from this website. Props to CYCLERS CAFE of Louisville for the recommendation as well. It was fall and the trail had a bunch of leaves but was still very rideable. It had great flow, nice bridges over the little ravines (with KYMBA routered into some of the bridge planks). Not super technical but plenty of rolling climbs on the hillsides. I'll bet when you know these trails you can just go SCREAMIN FAST. I'm sure a fast XC racer could do a lap in 30 minutes. It took me 50 because I was learning my way. 1:45 to do it forwards and backwards. It was super cool to see the KYMBA guys out when I was loading up to leave to go out and do more maintenance. One had the Toro Dingo ready to roll. SUPER JOB KYMBA!!! I rated it a 4 out of 5 for the effort and 'cause hey...it ain't Colorado. Peace.

Customer Service

I rode both clockwise and counterclockwise to get a good ride in. I was told that one loop is around 6 miles and I'll bet this is close. There is plenty of good trail so please honor the "TRAIL CLOSED" markers on other sections as these are closed for rehab. I parked at the first lot by the playground and took the left (really small) bridge to the left of the playground as you're looking at the playground.

Don't let any of the other posts scare you. I began riding at the Waverly system (five years ago) of trails and can vouch that there's no better place to start. Yes there are a lot of climbs, but you're rewarded with descents. The trails are pristine, well groomed singletrack thanks to the Kentucky Mountain Bike Assoc (i.e. KYMBA). Waverly is arguably the best trails around with much regard to Ft Duffield and Otter Creek that are nearby.

Customer Service

The "Race Loop" is the main flow. Although one may need someone lead them around once or twice. Otherwise, just jump on the trail and go, almost all trails lead back to the parking lot.

Similar Products Used: Ft Duffield, Otter Creek, Cherokee-Seneca Park are all great with different characters.

Don't let any of the other posts scare you. This is where I began riding. There is some technical stuff here, but not much. The Waverly trails are pristine singletrack. Arguably the best around (Otter Creek and Fort Duffield are all excellent too with different characters), and most definitely well groomed. Yes, of course there is lots of climbing, but you're rewarded with descents.

The Kentucky Mountain Bike Association (KYMBA) has a regular schedule of maintenance to keep these trails perfect.

Customer Service

"The Race Loop" is the main flow, but it's not marked. Find someone who knows the trail and let them lead you around first. Otherwise, jump on the trails and go. All trails lead back to the parking lot.

Don't even think about riding here if your out of shape. Oxygen tanks would be good at the top of some of the hill climbs. Very fast going down but very slow going up. Trails run in all directions and I still get turned around and It's in my backyard practicly. It's the perfect place to condition as a racer or just to get in shape. Bring plenty of Fluid to drink and some tools and patches. You don't want to get way back in these trails and get a flat.

Customer Service

Yeller trail for beginners.

With names like "The Super Bowl", "Shearer Hill" and "The Luge" you can't go wrong! The park has tons of small short trails that run off of 2 or 3 main loops - if you like short bursts-downhill and up allowing you to create your own loops this is the place for you - The Luge is a blast and it is just like it sounds - super fast and worth the trip - If you are in Louisville and its NOT raining - check it out!

Customer Service

Too many to Count - But you must ride the Luge and try the Super Bowl

Similar Products Used: Sheltowee Trail 2 hours east(well worth the drive!!) is in a different league - Waverly is a fun but can get old - Sheltowee is a 5.

One word comes to mind, hard. The place is very fast but you have to be carefull or a hill like BIG MONTANA will come up ahead of you an kick your ass. If you go be sure to try the Dixie Loop and ride Big Green Ridge. I love this place. Oh yea watch out for ATV's.
