GOOD NEWS, this place is now open year round. The trail is in great shape. The backside of the hill has had some serious erosion issue, but the folks of the Kentucky Mountain Bike Assoc (KYMBA) have been holding trail days and have been doing some extensive work to update this historic trail. Excellent single track trail with some good climbing and downhill. Once in the valley of this one time Ski resort, the air does not circulate well. This section is deceiving. It does not look difficult but it is uphill in the open sun.

This trail is very fun! It has many small hills and quick, sharp turns. The hardest part is climbing the ski slope, the grass here is tough. You can pick up some good speed but watch out for the slick tree roots and the shifting dirt.

This is one of the best trails around. It is only open on designated recreational ride days and on race days. While you have to pay to ride ($5 on recreational ride days), it is well worth the money. The trail is in two sections. The "beginner" section is fast and has only a few technical spots. The advanced section features a lot of climbing and some fairly technical terrain. Bear in mind that there were once ski slopes here and you'll have some idea of the elevation change involved--you go from the top of the mountain to the valley and then back up. Guaranteed to give you a good workout!

This is a great place to race. Races are on same course but the change directions (clockwise/counterclockwise) to make it completly different.

Only regret is that this trail is only open once a month.

Customer Service

Great tight singletracks. Good technical skills needed to ride this set of trails.

Nothin' says forearm fatigue like Butler! Roots, rocks, ruts, bumps, crevases, and holes all conspire against you to get you off the bike. The climbing? Let's just say that last climb on the course killed 3 of the 5 Marlboro Men. I've got to mention how nice the people are that run the place.
Good riding, good fun=Butler

The outer loop is a death wish for anyone under the sport level of riding. Personally, I like it. Hell, you
might as well stay all day and ride it all.

I really like this trail it has some fast sections and enough technical spots to keep any one happy. Like the other reviewers stated the only real draw back is it is only open once a month. There is also some posion ivy around so watch out.

All this trail system is ups & downs. Some reviews called this technical? In Kentucky, nearly everything is technical, but Butler is much less so because all you do is climb and decend. No real skills required, just good fitness.

Briar Hill is far more technical and a better all round ride. However, Otter Creek and Ft.Duffield represent the best area riding.

The soil here gets pretty slick where packed when the
slightest bit wet so watch it! For a ride in the park, it is not a ride in the park but yes there are more technical rides in Kentucky, there is only one Bike Butler! Thanks to you know who!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess I might be the only rider who has a 17t granny using a Limbo spider; in Kentucky,
withe a suntour freewheel cog; the smallest that can be used with any reliability and I have climbed every climb here on more than one occasion during a clidesdale race, and passed many pushing their high teck steeds that cost 3times as much up hill toward the lodge; so there...
(well, except for the 2/3of widowmaker
but I have gone down it; chicken? put your seat on you belly and keep your but off the rear tire, skid one foot if you have to)

Customer Service

Ride the same direction as is designated the day you are there; whether race or wreck-reation riding and
watch your speed around more inexperienced riders, don't give the sport a bad name withe some elitist attitude you don't deserve to have just because you have the latest 9speed unobtainium hype and might have actually come close to winning a race or two . . .
