Middle Creek Park - Trail, Burlington, Kentucky

Middle Creek Park - Trail, Burlington, Kentucky

DESCRIPTION

This trail system is huge. It is intended for horses, but the sign said, "no motorized vehicles" so we hopped on our bikes. Nobody complained. There must be 20 miles of trail, all well marked. Most of it is pretty simple single track. Some huge hills to climb and descend. Nothing real technical, so I'd say it's beginner to intermediate. Of course, we haven't ridden it all yet, so there may be some tricky stuff further back. All in all, a great place to practice and stay in shape.

I went to this trail with a friend in Jan.,'00. The trails were so torn up by horses that we gave up & went home. Not Recommended.

The trail was made for horse travel but bikes are permitted. The trail starts out along a creek bottom and is very easy. There is a bridge with stairs to ride up which is a lot of fun. To get to the top of the hill is an awesome challenge. The hill is steep with logs and drops to make the advanced rider happy while screaming in pain. Once you get to the top it is fast tight singletrack with lots of curves and dips and drops into shallow creek beds. The trail is rutted with hoof prints, but this just utilizes your suspension. There are three trails to choose at the top of the hill. Coming down from two of the trails is an advanced adventure that could put a full suspension bike to work. Hardtails, don't frett. Just sit way back and make sure your brakes are adjusted. At the bottom you enter a horse rutted rock bed to ride back to the trailhead. This is fun and moderately challenging because you are constantly having to change lines and it is very rough. Then your'e back to the bridge to ride up more stairs, or do a 3 foot to 8 foot drop into the creek. This trail can be fun, but it is a solid work out. This trail was not made for the weak. Try all the trailhead entrances. One is easy the other has numerous small drops and is loaded with washout and roots that can easily send you over the bars.

Horses have really torn up this trail. I could only walk around so many sections before I gave up and went home. The mad was so deep that I couldn't peddle in many sections.

this trail sucks. it muddy with horse footprints all over the place. when the mud drys its like 3-5 inch holes everywhere from the horse. if you have a hardtail you might as well stay at home. leave this trail to the horses, cause were not going to win this battle.
