Cross Timbers State Park - Trail, Toronto, Kansas

Cross Timbers State Park - Trail, Toronto, Kansas

12 mile loop consisting of smaller tangents for beginners. Rocky, technical bits interspersed with mowed meadow trails. Rolling hills, creek beds (dry), lots of beautiful old hardwoods, and mixed open savannah. Full 12 mile loop is for intermediate-advanced riders as it's fairly rocky. Worth a trip, this park is a jewel in the middle of nowhere. Surrounds a huge 2,800 acre lake.

The summary above describes this trail pretty well. It has been about five months since the once time I rode it so my recollection is fuzzy. Basically, it is typical Kansas singletrack. The trail winds over rolling hills. No big climbs or descents. The trail is mixed with smooth and rocky, technical sections. There are a couple long sections of exposed prairie sections that, as on the day I rode, can be a buzz-kill due to wind and/or sun (I was there in the summer, which gets bazing hot on the open prairie). This place has alot of potential for technical features as there seemed to be alot of exposed rock that could be used for freeride fun. Although it is nothing special, it really is a gem considering it's location ion the middle of nowhere.

I started in the state park near Toronto, KS and rode out to near the end somehwere along the lake. I think this is the only route. It's sort of an out-and-back, if I remember right.
