The Hemorrhoid - TRAIL

The Hemorrhoid - Trail, Mason City, Iowa

Disclaimer: It only takes one mistake on one day of riding this trail and you could die... it's a rim trail circumnavigating an old rock quarry with some 20 to 35 foot drop-offs less than a foot from the singletrack path... not for the weak-hearted

Im not sure if anyone is talking about the same thing here.... let me explain this to all of you

I have explored basically all of mason city mountain bike trails and they have loads of potential, but there are not much determined mountain bikers here well none that i know of..... (EMAIL ME)
The trail you guys are talking about is now called quarry lake loop and is a part of lime creek conservation area.. if you ride the quarry loop wait untill you get to the stretch with the 2 entrances to the wild turkey loop (awesome!) now comb the lakeside of that trail and you will find a very distinct entrance, you have to walk it first and there is a direction to it you will be able to tell if you are going the right was if there is a pine tree to the left about ten feet in. this is the biggest remaining part of the trail ( there are other little fragments but this one is the best) if you need help finding it or just need someone to go with, im almost always available, Roadrunnerbradley@hotmail.com i can show you around

The trail is fun to do. There are places that con be done by the most ardent bikers and places best to walk with a 40 foot cliff below. The trail is extreme but fun. There is a old quarry below with great bird life. The is a pair of bald eagles that fish here.

found the trail to be challenging and scenic. especially liked the view that the spur provides. would recommend this trail to the intermediate/advanced riders. beginners should ride with an experienced rider due to the dropoffs.

This trail is damn short but damn sweet... nice, new, green and inviting singletrack with lots of risk involved... great for someone looking to push the limits a little and enjoy some un-Iowa-like scenery... clean the trail consistently and the bragging rights go to you... a nice place to ride a while and sit around and chat, maybe even enjoy watching some wildlife... I've seen beaver, turtles, fish, geese, ducks, great herons, and even bald eagles while riding this trail! Unbelievable for a trail so close to town.

Wow, I never expected to ride a trail like this in Iowa, cool singletrack that slices around a big hole in the ground, guess that's why they call it the Hemorrhoid. They weren't kidding about the dangerous parts, definite broken bones (probably back and neck) if you fell. Falls one chilli short because it's just too damn short, I guess hemmorhoids aren't very long?

Some parts of this trail is very technical with some spots with a 40 foot sheer drop. The view from Eagle Rock is incredible. (I'm rating high because I screwed up by not rating the trail earlier) Sorry...

I'm not much of a technical rider and I hate stuff that is too dangerous. Hence, this trail is not for me. Well constructed and good singletrack for the crazier cyclist.

This is the kind of trail that gives mountain bikers a bad name! People can get seriously hurt or die on this trail, therefore it shouldn't exist.

Customer Service

Stay away, private property and dangerous!

Similar Products Used: I'm not a mountain biker, I just try to close renegade trails, singletrack should be at least four feet wide with no blind turns, period.

Pretty kick ass trail, didn't know it existed until I heard about it from my uncle who does bird watching there. It can be dangerous in spots but pretty fun, too bad it's not longer. Best trail in North Iowa that I know of.

Customer Service

Hard to find, follow first post directions.

Pretty sweet but overgrown when I rode it, too bad it isn't longer. Kind of reminds me of a "Little Moab" trail like they talk about in Mt. Bike Magazine.
