This was the first trail I ever rode and is great for beginners (I taught my wife on this trail). Some challenging parts, but nothing too hard. Fairly flat with a couple short ups and downs.

Customer Service

From parking lot, take paved. Then right before the woods the trailhead is on your left.

I'm posting this as an update because it hasn't been reviewed in a while. The trail is alive and well. Still pretty much the same as it was around 19 years ago when I first started riding it (wow, has it been that long?). Tight, twisty, roots, no big hills, horse tracks... Looks like the trail is being maintained, though maybe not yet this spring. So if anyone was wondering, it's still there!

Decent tight singletrack. Trails are worn in. There is no MTB Group that does regular mtce. on these trails Very Rooty, with many small ups and downs. Enough difficulty to keep it interesting. Some small log crossover- jumps. Good beginner to intermediate trail.

As a beginner, I found this to be a fun, but challenging trail. Lots of tight, twisty singletrack, some nice hills, several log piles, and a couple of flat sections the my roadie side enjoyed.
PROS: Set up nicely-Most of the obstacles are in areas where even a beginner can carry enough speed to clear them; same for the hills. The park has nice facilities and the paved path leading to the trail makes for a nice warm up and cool down. Great place to learn mountain biking.
CONS: A few sections could use some maintenance, but it looked like it may have been from some recent storm damage.
OVERALL: I was only planning on 1 lap, but I was enjoying myself so much I ended up doing 3. Later on in the day, I went to a trail I was a little more familiar with and was amazed at how much confidence I gained after riding Bluhm.

Customer Service

Cross the creek to ride the entire trail, or go straight for a shorter, easier loop.

As a beginner, I found this trail to be a nice challenge, but not to the point that I felt overwhelmed. Lots of tight, twisty singletrack, some nice hills, a few log piles, and even a couple of nice flat sections that my roadie side enjoyed. The middle section (after you cross the creek) is the most challenging, but it can be avoided if you are feeling like a shorter, easier ride.
PROS: Laid out nicely-Most of the obstacles are in places where even a beginner can carry enough speed to clear them; same for the hills. Park facilities are nice and the paved path leading to the trail makes for a nice warm up and cool down. Great trail for someone learning to mountain bike.
CONS: A few areas could have used a little maintenance, though it looked like it may have been from some recent storm damage. Nothing was blocked off or impassable, though.
OVERALL: I had a lot of fun here. I was only planning on stopping by for 1 lap and ended up riding 3. Later on in the day, I rode a trail I was a little more familiar with and was amazed at how much confidence I gained from riding Bluhm.

Customer Service

If you want to ride the entire trail, cross the creek, if you are looking for a shorter, easier route, go straight.

The storm that rolled through NW Indiana on Aug 23rd destroyed the trails at Bluhm park. I walked to the trailhead Sat. afternoon and couldn't beleve my eyes. If it's ever going to be used for mtbs it's going to take a long time and a lot of work.

fun trails, you could ride all day. Very easy to get lost on the trails though.

FUN trail. Lots of dipsy-doodles, steep but short hills with hairpins before and after. Be sure to get back across the ditch.

There is a perfect mix of speed and technical sections for this trail. A suspension bike is definitly a plus on this trail littered with tree roots. The trail is about 5 miles long.

Customer Service

There is only one main route for this fun trail.

Small practice loop that's a lot of fun to tool around on for a while then head to the back area. Lots of tight singletrack and lots of tree roots make for a bumpy but fun ride. Whoever is caring for the trail is doing an awesome job! Seemed to be more obstacles added this year on an already fairly challenging track. The Taco Bell a few minutes away is a nice touch as well :) I can't compare it to other local trails, but EVERYONE i've talked to (FIPS included) have said this is the best trail in the area. (argue that with them, not me, i'm just the messenger :)

I've seen all ages, shapes ,sizes and various bikes as well, take on this trail and all seem to come away with a smile. Although some are sucking more air then others through those smiles. I'd rate myself as an average ridder and have come away with a few small scars and a broken foot from the back area so use common sense when ridding. (then again i'm a klutz anyway)

Overall this trail is alot of fun if you want to get more out of your bike then an afternoon on some of NWI's paved bike paths and fireroad loops. Have fun!!

Customer Service
