Scales Lake - TRAIL

Scales Lake - Trail, Boonville, Indiana

The trail runs through a lot of spoil banks so there are some quick ups and downs. Some steep climbs. No long climbs.

the trails out here at scales range from very difficult, strewn with 10-15 foot drops, steep climbs, and unforgiving roots(teddy bear) to easier with only a few steep climbs and one root drop(hoover hill). I ride out here at least twice a week. Back a couple years ago they put in a pump track, skills course, and jump line. the Boonville Bike Club has plans to put a dual slalom course, A small free ride line, and something like a BMX track.

the loop (don't take teddy bear unless you are an experienced rider)

trails are excellent! a lot of upkeep going on there.passed a guy dragging around a lawn boy mower on goats trail. Truly working for the $2 gate fee. A lot of ups and downs switchbacks. Jumps for the brave and an awesome wooden banked curve. Had a blast!

The trails have never been in better shape. The trails have never been more ridable. Many of the rooty/rocky hills and turns have been smoothed out. The new bridge is awesome. 24 hours after a hard ride they are ridable again. If you have not tried it before or have not rode it in the last two years, give it a try.

The Xterra route is marked by blue arrows as is 6 miles long. It can be ridden in both directions.

Trails are in great shape! Been a long time getting back to Scales Lake because my first time was as a beginner and these aren't too friendly to newbs! I plan to start riding here again regularly now. The trail people have done a great job at fixing a lot of the ridiculous hills that were extremely covered in roots and made it near impossible to climb. They hold an XTERRA race at Scales every year now so I imagine these trails will continue to see good maintenance. Took my nephew and had a great 2 laps.

If you have never ridden these trails it's well worth the $2 gate fee (or $20 annual park pass). You can see your $2 at work on the quick repair of any damage these trails. New jumps and features have been added for 2010 and a few of the old ones have been improved. It also appears that some new sections of trail are being added this year.

This trail is a lot of fun.. It will challenge riders at the intermediate skill level. Scales trail has a lot of quick up and down hill areas and is all single track trail. There are a lot of hidden turns so be on your toes. There is one jump that that i saw that is made of logs packed with clay and dirt. It is made very well and will send you over a good size ditch with the option to use a small bridge on the left. One thing that I would change is to label the trails. There are many options that will send you off the trail to the road in the city park to find your way to your car.. It cost two dollars a car to get in the park but well worth it. The park is really nice as well that has cabins you can rent or camp sites as well.

Scales is still killer for 2007. Dirt roller coaster is a good description for this trail. Some sections are real narrow with trees very close together, sometimes in fast sections, so take some time to learn this trail before going balls out. I guess it could be a tad bit longer, but a cople of laps will help you dial in your line and give you a decent workout to boot. All and all a great trail for Southern IN.

Heads up on the fees to enter the park. The half dollar to ride in went up to 2 bucks. Might as well pay the $2 and drive in and use the shower house at the campground after your done.
The trail is still first rate, and well maintained, maybe too well maintained. They had a great log stack in there, and someone must have thought it was too difficult so they cut it out. The trail has a great deal of technical challenge with lots of ups and downs. The trail is 100 percent singletrack, and stays rideable in wet weather. Check it out.

Pretty cool. I rode the trail once but the jump in the middle is the best. The trail is pretty tech. for a beginner a lot of ups and downs. Overall the trail was fun but make sure you have a bike with more than 3in of travel.

Trail was great as always but got these tiny "turkey "ticks on us, there where hundreds of these little demons(they where the size of a ball point pen head) all over us. I would not recomend this trail to anyone until weather gets colder.
