McNaughton Park - Trail, Pekin, Illinois

Located in a 700 acre park. Good singltrack. Some longer climbs and a little bit sandy in spots. Unmarked trails as well. Main trail is marked w. Red markers. Good riding. Combined w. Jubilee State Park these are 2 good riding areas in Central Il. within 1/2 hr. of each other.

I've only ridden it once and I had a blast, the trails were very well maintained. This ranked right up their with the trails of Virginia that I'm used to.

But sides have there fun parts, but the archery range side is more. There are small jumps and dips thoughout the bottom areas, and some technical climbing and decents up top . But be carefull not to get lost but try to ride every trail you will have a good ride. I might of rated this trail higher, but I have rode some of the best areas in the nation (Moab, Big Bear, Vail, Black Mountain, Tsalli, so on...)and I am spoiled. If anybody is interested in riding more in the Central Il. area, and going to cool National NORBA and World Cup races, contact CIMBA(Central Il. Mountain Bike Association) at OVERBARS@aol,com. I will be happy to fill you in on what's up for this area.

There are two sets of trails one loop starts out in the park,(use the directions above)at the end of the road. They are a little hard to find your way around but these can be road my mostly any skill level. The other set is across the highway from the park. These start at the entrance to the archery range but the most of the trails are behind the range. You need to ride out into the open field after you come out of the first section From there you need to ride along either the tree line or the fence row from the field. The start of the trail is at the back of the field. These are not marked real well either but just remember where you came in at and go back out the same way.

These trails rock, the locals do a great job of maintaining the trails and keeping the horses off the mountain bike and hiking trails. The whoop de doos and jumps are to die for (or from). The beginning drop in down the long hill to the beginning of the loop is like something out of Deliverance. I just wish the milage was longer. COME....RIDE....SMILE......

Customer Service

Take the yellow trail on the north side of the road. Park your car in the Mountain Bikers new parking area and head directly north to the trail marker. Follow yellow, blue, or white trails. They all rule. See Mike or Scott at little Ade's Bike shop in Pekin for maps and riding stories, they won't steer you wrong..

An excellent single track that offers a little for all riding levels. There are a couple of swift downhills that can send the unwary into trees and hard ground as well as a couple of nice little climbs. Overall a very fun trail to ride but, unfortunately, the entire loop is only about 4 miles or so. The other side of McNaughton is the domain of horses but there are some nice trails on that side as well. Just try to stay out of the sand down by the creek.

From I-74, get off on the Pinecrest Dr. exit and turn right at the top of the exit ramp. Drive about a mile to the stop sign (Muller Rd.) and turn right. At the next intersection(Springfield Rd.) turn left. Go about 2-2.5 miles to the next intersection(Rt. 98). Turn right and drive 4 miles or so. The park will be on the left, the archery range(where the nice single track is) will be on the right.

The guys a Little Ade's bike shop are doing a tremendous job keeping up the trail. They cut a new blue trail that is totally awesome!!!! It is technical, up and down, in and out it is everything. I appreciate their work and this is the best trail in central illinois.

This a great trail. There is some nice climbs and a lot of roller coster type things. There are a lot of bridges and jumps. If you get a chance go ride here. I rode most of the trails and by taking different routs you can get about 15 miles.

There was some sweet riding on this trail, but it has not been kept up well. The worst part is that there is a lot of erosion that makes some of it unridable. Large parts of it are also very swampy.

Mike and the rest of the guys at Ade's did one heel of a job on this place
Ok, once you get on the singletrack you cross a windy stream twice and go through a little more trail and than you reach a funpark where there is a cool bridge, 2 tabletops, and a massive double, there is also a little exit to the two paths, running deer trail and a blue trail which is very exreme! There is also a jump in the blue trail that is so big it's hard to explain, you are going downhill and you dip this about 6 foot dip and than there is about a 6 foot jump and a 16 foot downhill!!!
