For those not in the area it should be noted that the bridge leading to this fine trail system HAS BEEN CLOSED! The island itself is open the the bridge leading to the island is closed. You can still reach the island by boat if you dare. The slough between the main entrance and the island is very dangerous so please be safe!
The area has several other good riding hot spots within a 15-20 minute drive. Sunderbruch park in west Davenport IA is a great place to ride as is Illiniwek park in Hampton IL. Also try out Scott County Park in West Branch IA.

The Girlfriend and I was in the quad cities and did some road biking so I threw in the mt bike as well to check out Sylvan Island. Lots of neat trail packed onto an island in the Mississippi river. There are some graded/gravel trails around the perimeter and through the middle. Everything else is single track. No climbs but fun whoops and jumps throughout. The place is so packed with trails that it's easy to more just wander about until you get a feel for where it runs then you can put together some good loops to run hard. Not particularly technical but I really enjoyed the "historical" aspect of running around on the site of an old steel mill. Lots of "junk" like busted up bricks on the trails but didn't have any issues with flats. Had a great time. Thanks to the club that maintains this great riding area. Will be back!

One of the best trail systems in the Quad Cities. I have been riding the Island with the Inspector for 5 plus years and never get tired of it. Trails are well developed. Because the trails are on an island (hard packed sand), it drains quickly and is usually dry just hours after it rains. The location on the map is totally wrong. Scroll the map north and west until you get to Moline. Find the Rock Island Arsenal. You can find the island on the map south of Arsenal island where the river deviates to the north around Sylvan (Injury) Island.

Great trails with nice jumps and random fun terrain. I love this spot. It's good for XC, free-ride or even BMX.

Customer Service

I start on the right and hit the jump section. The outside of the island trail is really pretty since it's right on the Mississippi.

***I am starting a freeride group in the QC. It's just gonna be called QCFR (quad cities free riders) We will just get together and ride every week or so. Maybe after it's going for a bit, we can get a couple comps and demos going too. I would also like to get REALLY involved in trail maintenance. Build jumps and ladder bridges etc. (I did trail stuff a ton in TX) If you're interested, please email me!!! jordanjohnson512@yahoo.com --- I just started free riding, and I suck right now, so ALL levels are welcome. I am gonna make some flyers and hit the local shops up. I will also be making a website soon.***

I discovered this trail last year just before the Sylvan Stampeed.I had just started mtn. bike riding a couple of months before. I love this course and have spent many hours over there riding the race course over and over. It's a great spot to have locally, as I'm from Bettendorf. I can't wait until it's rideable again this Spring. I rode in the Stampeed last year as a beginner, trailing behind everyone.I'm looking forward to riding again this year, amongst the crowd. It's great fun and there are lots of different trails to follow, from a family ride to some really good drops. Lots of excitement.

Customer Service

Any route is great. Just hop on your bike and ride!

Just rode there today, again. If you live in the Quad Cities and have not ridden here, you are on crack. I ride a 38lb freeride rig and have been having a great time riding off little drops and hucking over some serious jumps. The trail system is very nice. Always a different way to go. The skill level is pretty good. Lots of BMX inspired riding. Cross country guys can make a circuit out of it and get their heart-rates up. Freeride guys can climb the rock hills and point it down. Kids can follow their parents on the main trails, and teens can always find a secluded spot to do whatever it is that teen's do. Classic trail fun. If you do ride there, make sure you pick up any trash you might find. (Makes it nicer for the next guy.) Props to the locals for keepin' it fresh.

Customer Service

Any. I prefer to start with the "whoop" section.

WOW! i just rode this trail again last night and was in awe of the improvements and clean up. new trails are happening all the time, but the acceleration of new trails was beyond my expectations. jim and his crew of dedicated workers should applauded! they have made this trail system into an urban legend! it has all the ingredients of a classic system......close to all those living in the quad cities....over 4 miles of trails....beginner trails....technical trails....jumps...hills....hazzards....water on the trails... CLASSIC!

If you have never been there i suggest you bring shin guards maybe even pants in the summer it grows over pretty quickly with thorns and sticker bushes. As for the terrain it keeps changing almost daily there are now 3 drops on the island sort of small but as far as i know they are the only drops in the area there are new dirt jumps in the middle of the island too. I love this place it has something for everyone from fast singletrack to dirt jumps to drops. And yes there are hidden dangers so also bring extra tubes you might get a flat not a gaurantee that you will though, there are some peices of metal, bricks, large peices of concrete. And thanks to the guys from East Moline for putting in new stuff this summer it keeps me going back,it seems every time i do i find something else that i havent before. If you do plan on riding there i dont suggest doing it alone,it's always safer to have someone there just incase you go too big and end up having to go to the hospital, like Jared when he went off the dock and didnt pull up he pile drove his head directly into the ground ,crushed hi full face helmet broke his nose and vertabrae and had to be taken out of there on a stretcher, luckily he had that helmet on if not he wouldnt be alive today. So to finish this rant i will say ALWAYS RIDE WITHIN YOUR LIMITS AND WEAR A HELMET.

I think the ruins of the steel mill and stone quarry make it a fascinating ride. Some hazardous metal and holes, however.
