Chicago Lake Front Trail - TRAIL

Chicago Lake Front Trail - Trail, Chicago, Illinois

Paved. Lots to see. Great views of Chicago and the scantly clad natives! Fun jumps off the stair ledges that line the lake shore. The 1/4 pipe at the base of the Shedd Aquarium is a total gas (don't end up in the lake). Jumping the steps at the Buckingham Fountain is a killer. Stop at navy Pier for chow. You can ride your bike right onto the pier! Some fun concrete structures to play on with your bike. Highly recomended this ride the Friday before the Chicago Air and Water Show. You can catch the air show without the crowds.

This trail is NOT an MTB trail. It is a paved lane, it is for road bikers, roller blades and runners. It is boring and I'll give it one pepper because of the view!

Great scenic trail through the heart of Chicago. The views of the city are awsome, bu the best part of the ride is the people watching. Mountain bike content? Put on your biggest knobbies; the hum they make is great for scaring people out of the way. Also good resistance training. The roadies will be surprised when you pass them on the side of the trail in the grass. Hone your techinical skills for the trails by dodging the many roller bladers, dogs, joggers, and tourists.

Customer Service

When I lived on the chicago south side I would pick up the trail at S. 31st street and head north to the end of the LSD. South to Hyde Park is interesting too. Also check out the LATE ride in mid July, which hits part of the northern section of the trail in the middle of the night.

why is this on mtbreview.com?

Customer Service

south of downtown is less crowded and fun for road bikes, north side is good for watching the ladies.

I love this trail from roosivelt all the way to the lakeshore campus of loyala. this trail is paved all the way there and adds great training to your off road working out. lots of roadies to get in your way but they are nice about running at a faster rate than them. Bring extra tube/ tools due to the CTA not allowing brokend bikes on their trains. I got hit by a car last week and they would not even allow me on then. this is a great trail however and you can park all along it if you are not lucky enough to live colse enough to ride.
If you are up in michigan try out the ruby campground trail. another good race is the norba series ICEMAN cometh challenge. (Traverse city)

Happy riding

Like I said once a week (weekdays)Too many WALKERS and bikers a like that doesnt know how to use a public trail its congested. But if you like to dodge baby strollers and oblivious good looking women...make sure to check on bikers insurance, don't forget your passing thru a crowd of Gold Coast people as well. You have to be in the right frame of mind to ride this trail, hey maybe if you wan't to "cruise" with your significant other this is the best place to take her, just don't let her catch you checking out the babes

This trail is for old men and boys who can not handle rough riding. Unless you are in to riding the smooth streets, this is a total waste. Time can be better spent bunny hopping cigarette butts in a K-Mart parking lot.

Similar Products Used: A few miles south are some awesome trails through Jackson Park. Jumps that you can catch major air, and miles of trails that you can ride on for days. Don' waste any time downtown, go to Jackson Park. Free parking and never crowded.

One of the few rides where its appropriate to bring the girlfriend along. And don't be fooled, This isn't mountain biking. This is "urban path riding." but don't go get out your yuppie road bike to hastily! This concrete trail does have some shiet to trick off of: The ledges make good 3 foot drop offs that are kinda fun, and if you like to pretend you are a trials rider, you can have some serious fun bouncing around the little "chess pavilion" and riding down stair cases. Most people here don't give a shit what you do, and won't even make eye contact. Don't plan on meeting any new riding buddies here and expect to be bitched at moderately for riding on the sidewalks downtown where its pretty ammusing. The cops are the only cool people here who don't bitch. Go figure.
